Hey all It seems like I don’t have the spunk I used to. On my last truck, F-150 Lariat every so often you would have to cycle the key on, then push the go pedal to the floor, then key off about 5 time to reset. Is this still the same procedure, just with a push button start instead of key? **i am running a pedal commander too
Yes, that throttle relearn is still necessary. Procedure is still the same as it was. I do this once a month on my ecoboost.
MtopRaptor, I have the same feeling on mine, not sure if it’s just me or it’s actually less responsive. What is the exact procedure, can you walk me through it in a little more detail? Will the truck give me any indications that a relearn is complete?
You won't get anything that tells you the relearn is complete. This is a relearn procedure that let's the pedal electronics know the full travel for the accelerator pedal. In normal driving, the computer loses the travel length because most drivers are not WOT all the time. Doing this relearn gets the responsiveness back to the pedal.
Can you explain in more detail how to do this with a push button start? Is there some where you can look up the directions? Sounds like exactly what my truck needs?
I will look for an official write up with the start button. With the KEY I did the following. 1. Turn the key to the accessorie position, DO NOT START 2. Push the throttle slowly to the floor 3. Release the throttle 4. Turn the key OFF 5. Repeat steps 1-4, four more times. 6. Drive like a madman
There is no difference in design for 2017+. They are all, and have been drive by wire. Doing this relearn every once in a while opens up the throttle limits and it undoes the learning it had from the operator driving characteristics. This throttle relearn is very commonly done to get drivability back. You find this more pronounced from the ecoboost owners because the lack of full throttle range really is noticeable on it.
This sounds like what I need to do. I have a pedal commander as well so hoping there’s nothing affected by that. In your instructions, you Say you don’t want to start it. So how do you recommend doing it with the push start? Just want to make sure I am understanding correctly. Thanks.
