I did and I still do not understand why you need to modify at your dealer and some sort! its an ashtray and a bunch of lighters!
Okay - I looked over the file and part number you sent. Fortunately I am tech savvy, not so much car savvy. So a couple of weirdness things to this. Let's first examine how an electric heating element works. Generally speaking; an electric current runs through an element that can get really hot. Think of a light bulb and how they light up. They connect a current that when mixed causes a reaction. I am not insulting your intelligence, just it is important to understand that fundamental. so looking at the document you provided, 1) This install document is 10 years old. 2) The cup holder disassembly is (for whatever reason) only if the ashtray does not fit in the cup holder. In your case, this should not matter since all you care about is the power outlet. 3) According to said document, there is a base plate assembly that needs installation at the base of the outlet. There also appears to be a separate outlet that needs to get installed to replace the original. So unless I am missing something, the only major difference is this base plate, which I don't get. If it is an outlet, there is a hot wire and a ground wire. Which no matter what would cause the reaction needed to cause the lighter to get hot or say power a CB or other accessory. I am not sure what in the heck that plate does on the outlet. maybe it is a heat diffuser to prevent the lighter from burning anything past the outlet. I just don't know. It seems like Ford is saving $0.15 and giving the dealership a service opportunity. Who knows. What I can figure out it the outlet should be the same. I can't recall any changes to DC outlets - ever. Someone keep me honest here. It looks like this is going to be trail and error for you to let us know if you experience any problems or what you uncover as you try your older accessories. Now you have me scratching my head. Hopefully I will pick up my truck today and I will ask the dealer.
