One of the cool aspects of the TT engine will be the ease of getting more power via a tune. I have had lots of turbo cars and trucks and the initial HP gain on just a simple tune is usually a lot of bang for the buck. I just hope the head gaskets, internals and turbo size are over built so we can see sizable gains without sacrificing reliability.
If the internals are built good and strong, then it will come down to gas quality. High quality gas is key to keeping these types of engines running right. Get a bad tank of gas on the wrong tune and get ready to pay for it.....
To an extent, you're correct. Most can tunes will tune towards 91oct versus 93oct. But with premium, you're still not nearly as finicky as if you were running E85. Having to test each sample of E85 before filling the vehicle - have a few buddies with GTR's and Cobras that run E85 and I laugh every time we have to get gas.
Yeah cant wait to see the potential. I had a 3.5 in my ExSport and it made decent power tuned, weak point was fueling. Hopefully Ford has dealt with that issue in the new engine. If they have big numbers are very possible.
I was told by a tuning company that the new tuning tables will be all based on quadratic equations and very, very complicated to aftermarket tune. We shall see.
Just go with Ford Performance and then you kill two birds with one stone, new tune without the possibility of voiding your warranty.
I believe the basic engine that's used in the Raptor is also the same engine that's used in the Ford GT, obviously I'm sure the valves and other internals are different but not that much different.
Quick questions to all you high speed Motor Heads; * When I pick my truck up (possibly a decade from now, smh), the darn dealership that it will be shipped to will have it filled up with gas. What kind of fuel will they be putting in it to start of, and will I jack up my truck if I put a lower/higher grade fuel when its time to fill her up? Any notes will be greatly appreciated. Chris
If you're leaving it stock you will be fine. Even if the truck specifies 91 octane and they fill her with 87 so long as you don't drive the crap out of it. Myself I'll be filling up with 93 no-ethanol asap to try and dilute whatever crap is initially put in there
Thank you, gents! I am telling the dealer to make sure they leave a note to fill the truck up before pick up with 93 no-ethanol. I hope my first tank is free... I doubt it with my luck.
Depending on where u live, non ethanol gas may not even exist. We're lucky up here in Canada that most Of our top grade pump gas isn't filled with ethanol
