I fully expected them to screw the sound system up again. My 2013 Sony system was abysmal. Good to hear they finally got it right with the B&O
It was a complete build, gutted the truck, added Focal sound deadening EVERYWHERE. Noah did awesome on my Sony system. Highly recommend him. I'll post up some finished pictures at some point. I think there are some floating in a thread here.
Great thread and thanks to the OP for starting it. I just ordered a 2018 Raptor with 802A and was wondering about the B&O sounds. I have a 2017 GT350 and the 9 speaker sounds are dismal at best - one of the worst sounding systems I've ever heard. Next to that I have a 2016 F-150 King Ranch with the "premium" Sony sound system that is total garbage as well. What I did there was went to Stage 3 Motorsports and ordered the Kicker VSS door/dash replacement speakers and the Kicker VSS replacement sub kit. Parts were about $1,100 and I did the install myself. Huge improvement in sounds - especially the Kicker Subwoofer set up. Sony "premium" speakers were single paper cone rated at a blistering 25 watts...the sub amp was like 35 watts (IIRC). After reading the above posts re the B&O system, there is no subwoofer? They fit easily behind the seat (not under) and the Kicker VSS replacement sub/amp/enclosure all bolted right where the stock enclosure was...I may have to keep the Kicker sub and install in the new Raptor...can anyone verify that there is no sub behind the rear seats...thanks, disappointed if no sub with the B&O system...thought it was going to be much better than the Sony stuff...
Lance, having just ordered a 2018 Raptor, you cant get the Kicker with the 802A package. If you select the Kicker sub, it makes you delete the 802A option...I was hopeing that meant the B&O came with a sub already...bummed now to learn that it doesn't. I have a 2016 King Ranch that came with Sony Sub enclosure behind the rear seat and I replaced with the Kicker VSS Sub enclose and it fit just fine. You have to relocate the stock AMP but they give you bracket, wiring and instructions. Not sure if same for Raptor, but since same cab s/b same room back there?
The B&O comes with the sub. Don't be too excited, it isn't that much better than the Sony in my opinion. I also installed Focals but kept the B&O center and sub. Waiting for Rockford Fosgate to get the new iData DSR1 processor and harness (they only have the harness for the 2017 with Sony system) to replace the stock amp since it can't push the Focals. I also dyno-matted all the doors which made it almost too quiet in the cab (now I can hear every little rattle, ugh).
Wow super easy to post pics! Pics with stripes were when I fist brought it home...I decided to remove stripes later so posted those too. Fantastic driving ride and that Flat Plane Crank 5.2L V8 has a very unique exhaust growl. I have the keep the garage door closed on cold start up so as not to upset the neighbors New to forum, let's see if I can figure this out!!
Good to hear...my largest disappointment with modern auto sound systems is the DSP "dumbing down" of the signal so they can use cheap speakers w/o blowing them. Once you replace with higher quality speakers, the signal is still weak so you don't get much improvement. I'm not an audio guy, but would like to figure out what to use to "reconfigure" the signal to it's full strength post factory AMP...not sure that makes sense, but I hope so I had thought the stock AMP also had processing so you couldn't replace it? Thank God for the FPC exhaust note in the GT350 or I'd really be having a fit with the OEM 9 speaker component system it's really bad, not much better than a 60's era vehicle with just the one AM speaker in center of dash... PS Is the B&O sub mounted behind rear seat, similar to the Sony sub enclosure? I ask as I might want to remove the Kicker replacement Sub/Amp/Enclosure from my 16 KR if I can reuse it in the new Raptor? Thanks!!
The B & O appears to be different enough that nobody has come out with compatible signal processors, or signal converters. Until that happens, you're stuck with crappy signal.
Well there's always Ford's "Track Attack Driving School" in SLC, Utah. I'm going for the 2 day course this Summer...be fun to learn how to properly track a GT350 while using their GT350/R's ;0 PS They are fun and Ford Performance really got the suspension dialed in. I sold my 2015 Carrera S with PDK/Sport Chrono and this handles just as well (IMO).
