One thing they may not mention in every session is Ford Perfomace does recommend the SPD Turbo Adapters and admits they out-perform stock. This info came from a question raised during the class.

The rest I won't spoil but make sure you tak advantage and ask as many questions about the truck as possible.[/QUOTE]
I think the #1 thing i want to know is if they are coming out with another V8. That'll really piss me if if the answer is yes.

Not a chance. Ford invested way too much in the 3.5L ecoboost platform to end it's lifecycle this soon. It represents >50% F-150 sales and a higher output version is in the 2017 Ford GT (and according to a recent Car and Driver article, Ford plans to produce 250 GTs per year for the next 4 years with no changes to the power plant).

Rather than changing the outrageously high demand Ford Raptor, we may see Ford invest in a lower price point version (maybe in a Ranger platform). The Bronco is coming back MY2020 as well.

Don't forget about the fuel economy standards all OEs must meet by 2025 as well. It's possible the current administration can roll some of those regulations back, but they're still playing a factor in Ford's direction. It's not all about satisfying the consumer.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I'm not hopeful for a v8 comeback. I love this 3.5 v6 TT power plant. I just want to find out a year after i bought that they bring out a V8 TT that eats this setup up.

Other then that i'm happy to learn what more there's to tweak and learn the limits of the truck.

Good points made, however I will throw some additional points to consider as I actually do think 2019 MY will bring a dedicated Raptor identity engine (V8). To me, the current Raptor 3.5L EB is nothing too special in the form of true Raptor Identity, the engine was taken from their new regular F150 and "tweaked" with a few more additional parts and was given a Raptor tune from the Factory. Ford was really busy in making this engine and 10 speed auto right for their bread and butter sales dominant (the regular F150) and didn't have time to simultaneously develop a Raptor specific identity engine so they just used what they had, added a few parts and simultaneously launched it into the marketplace because they knew it would be "good enough". I actually really enjoy the engine, but that's beside the point, I think now that they have made their push into the marketplace with the updated 2018 regular F150 design change and full push of 3.5L EB and 10 speed auto, now they have the time to focus more on what's next for ford performance, and I think that answer is a new platform V8 that both the new Raptor will have and the new Mustang GT500, which combined will be a meaningful enough sales endeavor to push that initiative. The Ford GT is not even worth mentioning, it is such low batch production that its sales move no needles. Also, if you compare to the Raptor Gen 1, at inception they also threw in a V8 that they were already currently using, then after a few years Raptor got its dedicated identity engine being the 6.2L but it didn't start out that way at inception. Anyways, just a few more points to consider, these are all just opinions of mine, I have no insider knowledge whatsoever and of course I could be totally wrong.

Ya i hear you but i think the one cavet is Ford was up front about the Gen 1 V8 at launch. They made it clear from the start that a bigger V8 was coming and be out in the first year. The first V8 was horrible in the Gen 1 based on how it was configured and how it worked at the end of the drive line. In the end it was all trq and it was horrific to drive. Then the 6.2 came out that year and made it a drive-able truck.

However getting past all of that, the 3.5 makes this truck a true performance vehicle in all aspects and yes with all of the other technology factored in. Adding a V8 back into this mix would be a bit interesting but to what real returns? Adding more HP & Trq would be nice but for real world use it's not needed. The truck is only a sec or two off from 0-6 times of most common place sports cars. It doesn't need more trq for towing as that's all limited by the suspension. So to me in the end all a V8 would do is add the mid range to top end performance. The top end is limited by the tires.

All and all, none of us would say no to a V8 under the hood that could do what this v6 does of better and have the sound back that we miss. But i think the truck is getting to a point of diminishing returns. That and i don't want to see the value of my truck drop as a result of a V8 coming to market in this truck which is really my root issue.

Good Points Made Rapere! And likewise I wouldn't want our values to go down on our Raptors if they came out with a V8 so soon after the big re-launch.

Ok, pictures will get posted soon!

The class was a lot of fun! About an hr of classroom time then off to meet the truck in the museum area. Then we loaded up and headed out to practice some basic skills and learn a few things on the off road courses there at the track. By 10:30 we were headed out for real world stuff. Spent a lot of time working through all of the different modes and working with some fine tuning within the modes. The rest of the morning is spent working your way to lunch on a nice summit overlooking the valley. After lunch, working your way off the mountain and heading out to moderate speed stuff in the desert (Baja Mode).

Got back to the classroom around 4:30ish for more Q&A, and some cool swag for participating.

They did a good job of butting this all together. The consensus was we all wish it was a multi day deal even if we had to pay for it.

Did ask a lot of questions, yes the V8 question. They were clear to say that they don't know details like that but gave their truthful though on the topic.
The reason you can't lock the rear diff in 2h is because it will wear it out too fast.
This said, you'd need to do some serious upgrades to put in a V8 with more Pwr/Trq then what we already have. To that it equals cost. In the end your still limited to 108 limiter due to they don't make speed rated off road tires much above that. So, as cool as the idea sounds it's not likely.

Tires, for those that were listening in class and paid attention while we were out in the trucks. The new BFG MT K3 was being tested on a few trucks the instructors were using. I may have a picture of those to post too..........

Don't want to give it all away but it was a good time and worth the trip if you can make it. I drove out so that i could do some off roading in CO, NM, UT (Moab).

Nice write up. Noone new will be going this year as they are full. And if you've had your truck for over a year when they start again you are SOL, like me.

I hope you're right about the new V8 coming. The V6 performs well but that sound.....awful. I'd rather have had a full muffler system that silenced it than this. It's embarrassing!
