Got my Roush Kit this weekend and did the install last night. Read the direction a few times, watch the install video, make a drink and lay out the needed tools.

The drilling template is off just a bit. Drill first hole and mount bracket then drill second pilot hole works better.

Although i would agree that there's more air flowing into the power plant the key problem is an overall poor design that these kits don't fix. They all seem to still use the stock air intake snorkel which limits the volume of air coming in and has two 90 degree curves disruptive air flow.

Additionally, "Cold Air Intake" is a bit of a BS statement in selling these things. There's no real difference in air temp coming in as it's the same port as stock!!!!!!

The solution that i would love to see made is direct air intake with an inline filter. Minimal restriction points and better filter management in terms of specifically designed filters with better ratings. The better it filters the more restrictive. Give us options based on typical use. High dust requires a better filter, moist environments require a different type. Etc.......

So would you recommend this to others or spend your 400 bucks on another mod?

I would say that most of the one's i've looked at online are the same setup. Use the oem snorkel, install a larger air box and offer a different filter.

There's no additional gain in "Cold Air" because it's the same air tunnel coming in and hence the same basic volume.

A less restrictive filter pulling from a larger air box is putting in minimally more air to the power plant.

Are any of them worth $400? No but that's just my opinion. You functionally get somewhere between 10-20 net HP gain (claimed). So what else am i getting? A different looking intake and a slightly different sound.

For the same $400 you can get the Boostmax and net far more bang for the buck.

I had the extra $400 for this intake so no biggie to my checkbook but i wanted others to be aware of what they are really getting for their $$$$ with these "Cold Air' intakes that are coming to market. I think all of us (myself here too) are so eager to to go after gains under the hood and are looking at shinny new stuff without enough scrutiny........

the factory one is closed vs this one is open so no restriction in air pull. the factory snorkel is just one way for air to get rammed in at speed, but air is getting sucked in from all directions with this open setup granted it might not be "cold" but its air.

^^^ forgot to add at least on the roush one it moves the IAT about 1' closer to the filter so i'm sure that has some effect on the PCM algo, or future roush/FP tune that will be coming out take advantage of it.

    Yes, no, maybe:

I get your point but there's a seal on the top of the airbox and it looks like the intent is to seal against the hood. If it does or doesn't i truly can't say. If yes, then you're still pulling all of your air in through the snorkel. If not then your getting more opportunity to volume and it becomes more a matter of the filter restriction/flow determining how much air you can induce.

That said, would it be better to do away completely with the snorkel and remove the airbox all together and run a high flow filter only?

Yes, before you say it, you'd be mixing cooler fresh air with engine bay warmer air. I would question if higher air volume would compensate for cool air density.

ya idk either. just pointing out facts. btw i put a little chalk on that seal and its doesnt really touch up against the hood so there is a little gap. also on mine the factory snorkel has a big gap into the air box. the factory one was snug no gap.

i just wanna press the pedal and go fast. :893karatesmiley-thu ninja fast.

    Yes, same here.

Both the gap i noticed last night and to go fast. I'd be more likely to spend the $ to remove the speed limiter then buy an air intake.

I know, the tires are the reason for the limiter. But after you make a few of those Tito's specials i be like "watch this shit boy's!"

I finally pulled the trigger and installed the S&B CAI on my truck last night. I would have to agree with all points made by Rapere1 as far as modifying your factory intake. The S&B kit is a high quality kit that takes no shortcuts (in my opinion) and was shipped to my door for $299. Would I recommend it, yes I still would as its a nice upgrade over stock, but don't be expecting major gains over factory unless you are running other parts and a tune that's complementary of all inclusive add ons. With that said, later on I do plan to do the 5Star Tuning on my truck (and maybe aftermarket downpipe) so I think with a specific tune there might be some additional gains to be had with the aftermarket intake.

FYI to all, at least with the Roush kit beware IMPORTANT: Do not remove the silencer rings.

The Roush directions call out not to remove them yet some of the online videos show removing them.

I made the choice to remove them and got a trip to Ford because i got a check engine light come on. Reached out to Roush and it was the first thing they asked me if i had removed them things or not.

If you remove them it messes with a crank air pressure sensor and flips on the check engine light.

Lesson learned for others to follow!!!!!!!

    Thanks Vikes,

There are a few factors that also influence this issue!!!!

I drove for a few days without triggering light. Then the temp went up which also resulted in a slight increase in air pressure coming through the system. It was just enough to get above triggering a sensor.

That said, i'm betting some people based on where they live and temps may not trip the sensor.

From me it's just a general FYI out to all.
