I just found this out. I have an older iPod with 30 pin connector and lots of music I like to listen to, is there a plug or adapter that will allow me to use the usb recepticles in truck? Thanks, Ray
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm - Isn't the 30-pin a 30-pin to USB cable??? I am right there with you, I never load music onto the car's system and just use a cheap iPod so I can transfer music easily from one car to the next as I buy new cars. So as sarcastic as my response is, I am in the same boat. Damn it, now I need to look for an older 30-pin cable.
All the info I found says it will not work, lots of posts about this problem on the f150 board, etc, They say you can buy an fm transmitter and broadcast through your radio, man that takes me back to my old portable xm radio days, Ray
So - here is the odd ball crux - your phone will work over USB. I forget which one is which, but android will work over bluetooth and iphone over usb. maybe the other way around. It might just be the front USB ports.
I'm really at a loss here. I can tell you WITHOUT A DOUBT that your Ipod with a 30 pin connector will play no problem connected to either USB port in the little cubby in front of the gear shift. I currently have both an IPOD Classic 160gb and a IPOD Classic 60gb both work without a problem. In addition, if you really want to hear a great music player with excellant DACs I have a FIIO X3 High Resolution music player with a 128gb card in it. I tend to move this one back and forth b/t cars but it sounds great in the Raptor. In addition the truck will happily play over Bluetooth but I find the resolution to be not as good. Truck is also happy to play files directly off your phone useing Android Auto (thats what i use as well as Ipod) or Apple Car Play. The car play is the only one I have not tried. I typically have 1 of old Ipods plugged into the upper slot and my phone plugged in using Android Auto in the other slot. Very easy to switch back and forth.
Fiio- is that thing worth it? Is it really a big jump over standard MP3, and what do you need to encode in?
I bought a 30 pin cable with usb on other end and ipod classic will not play, I asked sync to play usb, says no usb device found. Is there a special type of connector cable that is required? I talked to dealer tech who walked me through the new truck promo after I bought the truck, he didn't know there was no audio plug and is supposed to call me back tomorrow.
If you have a lot of HI RES music - i have a lot of Apple Lossless files - the X3 is head and shoulders above the average IPOD. The X3 (and most of the FIIO players) decodes mp3, mp4, DSD, WAV, WMA, ALAC, FLAC, APE, AIFF and a few others i cant recall.. its NOT expensive at all - brand new on AMAZON an X3 (GEN 2) is 169.99 then you need to buy a memory car - probably 40 or 50 bucks for an ULTRA XD 64 gb or 128gb card. The DACS - CIRRUS LOGIC dual DACs in the X3 are capable of decoding 192 kHz / 24 bit with a THD as low as .001% If most or all of your music is ripped / downloaded in MP3 or MP4 or if what i said above does not make any sense or doesnt should like english then the FIIO X3 is probably overkill. There will be almost no sound difference with MP3s. The old audio adage - garage in, garbage out applies.
There is really only one 30 pin cable - 30 pin to USB so you have the right cable - assuming your cable and IPOD are working correctly - turn on your truck. Hit the AUDIO button on the lower left hand corner of screen. Then hit the SOURCE button on the top left of screen and choose IPOD. You should be good to go.
I do know that my home theater has a 30-pin iPod connector on it. It used to work with older iPods, but at some point Apple's firmware fubared the connection and the stereo no longer works with an upgraded iPod. Where I am going: we may be telling you it will and should work, but if you have some ancient iPod (like with a wheel on the front) - the firmware might be too old and will not work.
