This was my second attempt to purchase a Raptor and I was unsuccessful again because I didn't hang in there long enough mainly because of dealer pressure! I tried to purchase a Raptor three years ago in 2016 and ended up extending my old lease for three months waiting for a Raptor to come in that the dealer had on order! It was suppose to come in during February 2016. The Dealer then said they reached out to Ford and the new date for delivery would be the end of March. When March came they said there was a delay in manufacturing and it wouldn't be in till April/May. Finally in April 2016 they told me Ford said they stopped production and they wouldn't be getting one at all! The whole time they were trying to push me on another truck using every trick in the book! I extended my old lease to it's max three months so I had to make a deal! I'm sure you've heard this same story from others trying to get a Raptor?
I ended up leasing a Platinum for three years with the anticipation of getting the Raptor I always wanted in 2017 when my lease would end. WELL, It's 2017 and my lease is up! Guess what? Same thing happened! But this time I got a little closer! This time I started early but still had to extended my lease again with the same waiting game for a Black Raptor with the 802a package, Just what I wanted! I was so close, it was suppose to be in in three weeks! I was getting excited! But then a string of things happened!
First a lady ends up hitting my Platinum, I need to return, in a parking lot! Now I got damage to the back bumper on a lease that I was suppose to return and you know they will charge me a lot of money if I don't fix it before I return it! Then the dealer gets in Two Mid Model Avalanche color Raptors when they were only suppose to get one! They were suppose to get the Black 802a package one in the next two weeks! But now they tell me because they got two delivered instead of one of the Avalanche Raptors they think they are not going to get the Black Raptor on order! and that they gave them the Avalanche one instead?
One had the 800a package and the other had the 801a package. They were charging almost $10,000 over MSRP which was bad enough! so I didn't want to settle for a Raptor that didn't have at least close to what I wanted especially when spending all that money! Then they magically had a fully Loaded Platinum with everything I wanted color and package wise with the ecoboost engine.
My lease was up, I just got hit and I had no guaranty the Raptor I was waiting for would even come in? Plus I was leaving the next day on a 5 hour road trip to Washington DC with my family the next day! They dangled the Platinum in my face and offered to lower the monthly payments and throw in a cover for the back if I take it that day! Then they said they would make sure any fee's would get waived from any charges when returning my lease after it just got hit.
Meanwhile, before it was hit my old Platinum was in perfect condition with only 28,000 miles on it when I was aloud 32,000 so I should have had equity in it! I was now fed up, tired of playing the game and in desperate need of a safe truck to drive my family to DC in!
SOOOO! I signed the papers! and the minute I drove off the lot regretted every minute of it! What did I do? How do I get out of this lease! I have the Money to buy the truck I want why can't I just make it happen! I am now driving a truck that is worth the same money as the Raptor minus the mark up, that I was willing to except to get the Truck I wanted. UGG! It's three weeks since I signed the papers and all I have been doing is thinking and researching about how I could get out of this lease and get a Raptor.

Mural of this story is I don't ever want this to happen again! I am hoping that by joining this forum I can learn from it's members how to make sure this doesn't happen to me again in three years from now! And hopefully be driving a 2020 Raptor in the future! Unless there is any advice on how to get out of this lease and into a Raptor sooner? Any suggestions would help? I'm only getting older! I can't make the same mistake a third time! Life is too short! HELP!

So to boil my story down in short key stroke:

I knew I was going to get rid of my wife's SUV in May-June(ish) time frame. I knew I wanted a Raptor. By some lucky chance I found out they were selling them and how over-demand was crushing orders - back in January, very early Feb. I literally emailed every Ford dealership in my state (well I live in CT, so I don't have the sprawl of say Texas) I found one dealership who had their last allotment available and ordered the truck over the phone. (at one point I was first on a 2018 list at a dealership)

I was planning to purchase, or actually start researching buying a truck about this time, and glad I did not. I would not have been able to order the truck as I wanted it. (ordered 2/7. ETD: 5/10 - yes I am very giddy and about to explode)

I am not trying to brag I got one; but if you were really going to buy one - the ground work on getting one was crazy. needed to get in early and have patience.

Next go around start early. very very very early. In your case I would of put down a deposit and attempted the impossible - Have your dealership put a 99 code on the order, or told them to put the order in to Ford in January.

Also - WHY ARE YOU STILL BUYING FROM THESE CHUCKOS?

    My cheap $.02 opinion.

Thanks Nexmeister, I need to start looking next year! LOL Yea, I am a fool for still dealing with these guys! For some stupid reason I thought they would take care of me because myself, my family and my friends are all long time friends with the owner and his kids and their children! I even employee the general managers two sons, the owners Grandson's. Every person in my family and all my friends buy cars from them because of our relationship and their dealership is 40 minutes away from us all. I bought my first car from them when I was 19 but then after that bought Toyota's for a while! Maybe that's why? lol There is no loyalty anymore in business. They don't even give us that great of deals! I just assume they won't screw us if something bad happened? Next time I will go to someone else! Funny thing I reached out to other dealers around me and they seemed to have the most allegations of Raptors then any of the other dealers!
What's the specs on your new truck?

    I did the following:
    Scab - black
802a (just have to on these builds)
    Sunroof
    Technology package
    Heated steering wheel
    Tailgate step

I avoided everything else. I am not a fan of over stickering and decals. Beadlocks I figured I'd go aftermarket. And didn't like all the aluminum with the carbon fiber.

Just got back from Ford Rouge Factory Tour and can tell you it was amazing, my build date was today so I had a good chance of seeing my truck being built, of course you can't check VIN#'s but I did see at least 4 or 5 Raptors each of most colors except no AV or Silver, they ran in batches of colors with all other models at the same time, saw 3 black ones in a row but usually mixed in about 1 in 10 where Raptors, they were everywhere, keep in mine they pump out about 1200 F-150's a day here, at the end of the assembly line it was like a traffic jam to a non moving inspection area. I ordered Magnetic and like Ruby Red and Blue those colors really popped under the bright lights. You walk 1/3 of a mile on a elevated walkway over the final assembly section the entire line is 4 miles long. It took like 4 sec. to install a twin panel moon roof. Soooo.. if your still looking or waiting to buy a Raptor in my opinion there are still butt loads coming your way, maybe most are sold but I was only there 2 hrs and saw Raptors everywhere in a sea of regular F-150's So RMAN get your shit together they will be more, they're making them like popcorn. Sorry no photos allowed but looking back I think one could sneak a few in.

Not to be rude, but you did this to yourself. Got to stick to your guns, especially if it is what you want.

But hey, you got a nice truck in the plat. Enjoy it. Or go back to the dealer and tell them you have buyers remorse and you want the Raptor. For 10k over the better hook you up.

    Best of luck.

How are you guys able to order a Raptor? I hear of people doing it but every time I talk to a dealer they say you can't order one? It's always the same bull story; each dealer is only allocated two but sometimes they can swap with another dealer paying over invoice for already built Raptors. The dealer by me already sold 5 so whats the truth? I would love to order a Raptor exactly how I want it and follow the build out anticipating the day it would be delivered! That's My dream!

It was never 2 per dealer - Ford Performance gave allocations based on several factors - truck volume as well Performance vehicle volume. very small dealers got none - my local VT dealer originally got 2 but was told about a month ago they could order another. I was there yesterday to check it out. From order time to delivery was less than a Month.. hahahaaa most of us waited 6 to 10 months for ours! Heard some of the huge TX dealers had 15 or more. You need to either find one on a lot - use the Ford website locator or find a dealer who was given an extra - i'm guessing that is not as easy to do at this point but they are out there. side note - sales manager told me there will be no more Carbon Fiber package. It came from an outside source and they are no longer providing the parts. Not sure but kinda makes sense.

    good luck

In all honesty it's probably too late to get in the game for a "special order" as far as building it/optioning it out the way that you want. I ordered mine back in January and I was late getting in the game. I got my dealers last allocation. Just use raptorfinder.com and start calling around, you can utilize the website to narrow down the search for a dealer ordered truck that's close if not the same options you are wanting. A lot of guys have jumped on a plane to go buy a truck at MSRP and made a good road trip home out of it. Just my 2¢
