I have had three car seats in the backseat of my SuperCab. Two of them were infant buckets. Was it a little tight? Sure. Did it work for road trips? Sure. That being said, I have been in spots that of the truck was 12" longer, I would have been really stuck. We will have to wait and see what the interior specs for the '17 really show to see if there is more room than Gen 1.
With the SCREW, I've high-centered and rubbed quite a bit, where SCABs seemed to go over without any issues. Granted, this wasn't an everyday occurrence, but still teeth-clenching when you hear it rubbing and scraping.
Screw = more versatility for me. The Scab looks more the part off road modded I really noticed this at Snoball this year comparing my truck to Kanakry's awesome Scab. As for the difference in the wheel base longer is a better ride on and off road but it is a very small difference. My suggestion is to get both!!!
Good thing this is FR2.com - on FRF you can get killed for posting a pic of your Jeep (I know). Looks like a 10A Rubi - is it? My suggestion to you is consider removing the Sub - it'll give you some more room in the back and the "quality" of the Sub is so bad you won't hardly notice it's gone. Usually it's the width of the Raptor that causes most of the challenges off-road (if Raptors came first they wouldn't be called "Jeep trails"). I've been in places that most wouldn't take their Raptor and I've had to turn back a few times because it was just too wide to fit and couldn't go over (boulders). Out here in CA the typical issue with the Screw is the break-over angle and scraping the underside and possible high-centering. Everyone loves 12" except off-road
Having had both scab and screw raptors, I'm still torn with what to buy. On paper, the screw makes more sense but the scab looks better and is more maneuverable. The space in the back of the screw is definitely a nice luxury. Probably be caving and going with a screw.
Keep your Gen1 SCREW and get a Gen2 SCAB. Or sell your Gen1 SCREW for a Gen1 SCAB and then get a Gen2 SCREW.
I was able to see first hand how much better the SCABS can handle tight trails when compared to SCREWS. While my SCREW and another were scraping various sections of Hells Revenge, two SCABS with us did not. I wouldn't consider Hells Revenge a "usual" trail for Raptor though even though 90% of the trail was no big deal. For the most part I've had zero issues with clearance on the trails. Sure at Oceano Dunes I would scrape but that was just pushing dirt around. These days it is just my wife and I so less room in the back is not a major concern and it would be nice to have both a SCREW and a SCAB... best of both worlds!
