Had a 2014 Raptor with a Whipple supercharger with 50k miles. Decided to trade it in on a new and improved 2017 Raptor. The dealership had a Lightning Blue crew cab in transit and we struck a deal trading my current raptor. As most of us have done I ended up paying over sticker for the truck. When it arrived I was told it had a little transit damage.... I looked it over and sure enough there was a bad gouge in the rear passenger door. There were a few other little scratches on the truck nothing that I thought couldn't be buffed out. So I took the truck for 3 days while the dealership set up an appointment for me at the body shop. The 3 days I had the truck was a blast and I love the truck! Then comes the sadness....... The body shop had the truck for 9 Days. I was informed that the body shop had returned the truck to the dealership this morning. So I drove to the dealership and as I approached the truck I noticed the drivers side looked a little off. As I got closer I could see clear coat runs, horrible orange peal, and contaminants in the clear coat and that is not even the side I thought needed painting. I look at the passenger side of the truck and it has also been painted. Where it has been painted it doesn't match the factory paint texture or color...... I dont even know why the drivers side was repainted? I have no idea what to do at this point. I paid a lot of money for a gen 2 Raptor and I now have a repainted truck with mismatched paint. Any advise form someone who has been through this before??
I hate to say it, but to be blunt: you should of not taken delivery of the truck until after the dealership dealt with the transit damage. I would connect with the BBB and AG in your state to find out what your rights are. I am not a lawyer but I know states have protections against certain things and it depends on your state.
You are 100% right Nexmeister. Hindsight..... At the time I was just so excited it arrived and I was assured it would be fixed to very high standards and I wouldnt be able to tell any work was done at all. Well that was a promise that the dealership obviously could not deliver on.
Here are some pictures of the truck when I picked it up. I didnt take picktures of all the little scratches but below is one that was on the passanger door and some scuffs on the roof of the truck.
What did the dealership say when you told them you weren't happy with the paint? I've had cars fixed for fender benders and most times make them redo or fix paint I'm not happy with. Never have I been told they can't or don't do that. My biggest problem if I were in your shoes is that I have a brand new 70k truck that has already been painted. I really don't think I would have taken that one. But one never knows until you are in that situation. Best of luck, and keep us posted.
Something stinks here. This is wrong on a few fronts. 1- what the hell happened in transit?? 2- What kind of dealership tries pulling that kind of stunt? The paint work looks like a 3rd grader did it. 3- Why the fuck would you take delivery of the truck??? You should have either flat refused the truck, told them exactly how you wanted the deal to go, including where it was to be fixed or made them find you another one. Unless there is something you're omitting here, it seems you would be in the drivers seat on this deal.
was this paint done at the dealerships body shop? or independent shop . take it back . the transporter has insurance for stuff like this.
I got word the truck was back from the body shop. I went to the dealership and saw it back by the detail shop. I went to look at it first before I spoke to anyone to check out how they fixed the scratches and damage. As I walked up to it I could see where there were they wet sanded and buffed runs in the clear coat. It was down hill from there as I inspected the rest of the repair. The detail manager saw me out there looking it over and asked if he could help me with anything. I told him I was inspecting my truck and pointed out all the paint defects. He could tell how pissed off I was, he agreed that it looked messed up. I just left the dealership pissed off and went to work to cool off. I got a call from my salesman an hour later and it got to the owner of the dealership how upset I was and the crap job the body shop did. My salesman said the owner personally took it back to the body shop (dont know how true that is) and told them to fix their mistakes. Even if they fix it now I dont know if I want it back knowing it has possibly been repainted 2 times......
1- No way to know for sure what happened in transit, they put scratches and that gouge you see in my pictures I posted. 2- I didnt post any pictures of the repaint, the pictures I posted was of the damage from transport. 3- I took delivery because I was excited it finally arrived. It was obviously stupid of me to believe the general manager of the dealership when he told me that this happens frequently and the damage would be fixed. Not omitting anything, I should have made them fix it before I took delivery and not taken delivery till I was satisfied with the repair.
The dealership does not have its own body shop, it was done at an independent shop. The shop that did it has a good reputation but they really screwed up my truck. Makes me wonder if the dealership paid them a lower rate than normal so they did a rush job on it.
Gabe, I get the excitement as I believe most here do. Wouldn't call you stupid for taking it. We are just Monday morning qbing. If I was you I would at least try to make the dealership take it back, although I highly doubt they will. I really hope these guys take care of you.
That is definitely a conversation I will need to have with the dealership but I doubt returning it is an option at this point. Headed to Colorado Springs for the week so we'll see where they are at with it when I return this weekend. In the meantime I contacted Ford Customer Care, the regional customer care manager is supposed to contact me within 24hrs so we'll see what they have to say.
It's easy for me to armchair quarterback this, but understand that I feel bad for you to be thrust into this shitty situation. I would go for it and tell them to find you another truck so they know you aren't messing around. Stand firm on this and see where they go with it. Paying top dollar means you get top dollar treatment.
Damn Gabe...this brings back some bad memories for me. I had the same issue with the first F150 that I ordered (I'm from Wake Forest, though that one was ordered from another dealer a bit further south on US1...) The truck came in with transit damage most likely from a chain. Like you, I was excited and took ownership of it prior to having it fixed. Then the nightmare started....If there is going to be further repair, I would highly recommend you request that they have it done at Capital Ford's body shop. Do you know what body shop they used?? On another note, I think I saw your Raptor at Lowe's a week or two ago. I just got my Raptor, Lightning Blue as well. Best of luck with the issues....
