Got around 1k miles on this truck, like everything about it... motor pulls hard, suspension is amazing, looks great, but the transmission is crap. I live in the lower Appalachian mountains.... not big mountains, but alot of ups and downs at low speeds. The transmission doesn't have a clue what to do! I remember the review I read this past fall " the transmission gets in the way of itself". So true....! Yes, i have tried different drive modes, taking gears away, etc...still results in a unpleasant shifting experience. Bottom line, 10 freaking gears are to many! I'm seriously thinking of trading it for a gen 1 with low miles. Ugh!

Move to Southern Colorado or Texas where you can put that thing to good use. LOL. Sorry brother. Don't trade it. Keep it. What you have is precious gem that only a few can have.

you're either trolling or yes, you should get rid of the truck.

Trolling? For what? Great truck... just the transmission is disappointing in my opinion. Maybe some people like it, but in its current configuration is a let down for me. Maybe a different trans file will be available with a tune. I'm not giving up yet, just hope the aftermarket provides some options.

I live in the Sandhills of South Carolina, and we have a lot of small hills around, nothing like where your at, but I do most of my driving in sport mode. Maybe try and lock out 7,8,9, and 10 and try it. We went over and did the Dragons Tale and had a blast, I have a little over 2500 miles on my truck. You have to decide for yourself on what works best for you, you should have no issue selling your truck if you decide to, I hope you can figure out a way to make you happy and keep it! these trucks are a blast! Good Luck with whatever you decide.

Matt, have you tried hitting the tow button? I used it several times in my FX4 to fix premature shifts after my aftermarket tires and lift. Let me know if this works.

A- setting it into manual and sport mode and paddling it is fun
B- There will be a couple of really good tunes out pretty soon that will address the "hunting & searching"
C- I find the tow mode seems to hold gears a bit longer and keeps it from hunting as much IMO.

I automatically put the tranny in sport as procedure, because regular mode just sucks. I really don't see it as bad as some people make it out to be, but hey, that's just me.

What did you find with the tow mode?

Not much difference, still does alot of hunting gears between 2nd and 5th.... especially between 10 and 30mph going up hills. Thought it may be my driving style.... so I had a few buddies that have f150, f250, and gen 1 raptors evaluate the transmission..... they arrived at the same conclusion.... oh well, it is what it is.... I'm sure the tunes will be here soon.

The second you trade that in Fords going to release a new shift mapping update or something for the trans. You could call ford performance and ask they might be working on something .

By all accounts GM nailed it in the ZL1 so the hardware appears to be sound. Not sure why Ford has struggled with the mapping but you can bet it will improve a lot with updates, especially as they roll the 10-speed into F-150's across the board for 2018.

Yes, I have to agree. Love the truck, but disappointed in the transmission programming. I live in a hilly area and it does hunt a lot, but more noticeable to me is sometimes it does a really abrupt downshift almost a clunk. The truck does drive way better in sport mode, but that still doesn't address the quirky shifting in hilly areas. Truck is super super nice, but the power/shifting combination of my gen 1 seems more polished than the gen 2.

Fingers crossed that they release new tranny programming soon.

Do the lights for the gear numbers 1 - 10 stay lit when driving in normal mode? After going down the road, that section goes black and I can't see the gear I'm in.

Kind of off topic, but I did notice when I used a MyKey programmed key, and not the admin key, I didn't have the ability to put it into sport mode (it only offered normal and weather), and the gear numbers 1-10 were not showing.
