    so crap...

I've had it since Saturday... today I'm driving and I make a right turn... umm... there was a low lying street sign bent into the street a bit from wind. Mirror clipped it. *BONG*. Just barely... but it did.

No damage... but a tiny little paint chip, and small scratch on my oxford white passenger side mirror. Most people would never see it. I know it's there.

Would it be ridiculous to have it painted? Oxford white should be an easy match by the body shop. I'm not worried about the hundred bucks or two to fix it... but perhaps I'm being too OCD...

So what would you guys do??? Talk me off the ledge or push me to the paint shop?

    Thanks

Yeah that would eat away at me too..I would just tell myself thats what i get for not paying attention and get it painted..FUCK it dude its to new not to do it. If the honeymoon stage was over already i'd say fuck it but its not going to cost 200 more like 100 maybe cheaper. Best of luck

And for future rock chips/scratches from day to day use you might want to look into this as a possibility http://www.xpel.com/paint-protectio...Cars_and_Light_Trucks/2017/Ford/F-150/Raptor/

i had the entire hood , all painted areas on the front plus both front quarter panels, the lights, the mirrors and under the doors covered in XPEL ultimate. did the same on my last 2 vehicles as well.. love that stuff.. its not cheap to install but if u are an OCD crazy detail guy (like me) worth every penny.

    Ok...

So $70.00. Body shop down the street is going to fix it. I cant take looking at it there.

Getting it wrapped is a great idea. If the mirror was wrapped it would have tolerated the sign hit.

Back in the day I had this done on a white car... decade ago... and after 2-3 years it yellowed and I peeled it off.

Is that still an issue with yellowing?

both the 3M (venture shield) and the XPEL product say there is no more yellowing from sun or environment BUT you have to keep your film clean and "sealed" just like paint. My installer friend told me the wax/sealant 3M was telling people to use actually made the yellowing worse (this was 4 or 5 years ago) hahaaa

Good news is today with all the nano / synthetic sealants and polishes it very easy to keep the whole vehicle protected with a lot less effort than 10 years ago. White will always be the hardest color to wrap and never have any visible coloration. Be careful what you polish / wax with - absolutely NOTHING with any petroleum distillates in it..

Glad to hear its only 70 bucks to fix the scratch.. that would drive my crazy too..

So I'm waiting in the body shop.

As an FYI. They have to disassemble the mirror to pop the cover off. It's not quite as simple as just popping off the Mirror cover.

    What a pain

How does it work? I went to the website and its hard to follow. Is it like a vinyl sticker or something? Once on, is it visible? How protective is it really?

Google a local dealer near you and go to their shop and see it for yourself

You will only see it barely if you stop the film in middle of a panel or hood , but only you will see it since you k ow its there

I used suntek vs xpel since it appears to be a better self healer per the high end detailer experience but both are high end protective films

VT raptor will chime in with some good info on this

I filmed entire front end and had entire truxk cquartz after that

Front and 2' of hood was 450
Cquartz with detail polish to clean up imperfection from plant paint job and 2 coats was 1400 but that included doing wheels also

Scratches will happen and it's a truxk for me, work truck in land development so it gets dirty and goes in brush but hope to minimize scratches with the 2000 grand investment it has

Here I am - been away for a week and decided for the sake of my marriage to leave the lap top at HOME..

I have Xpel Ultimate on my 2017 Raptor. Great paint protect film. I did a little write up on it on my "New Member" thread - take a look and im happy to answer any questions you might have..

"Vermont Raptor - new member "is the thread and the PPL discussion starts on top of page 2..

to answer your questions - yes it is like vinyl but very clear and much better optics - you cannot tell its on my truck without getting right up close and looking for edges of the film. I dont want to over sell but there is nothing you can do to protect your car/truck that will do as good a job as PPF. Waxes/Sealants/Ceramic coating/Opti coat are all good for protecting against environment (sap/ bird droppings/ minor scratches) but there is nothing like a good Film on the truck when that first rock shoots up off of the car in front of you on the highway and bounces off your hood!! Ive got 3 cars with film on them, 2 with 3M venture shield and my Raptor with XPEL ULTIMATE. again - happy to answer questions but check my thread - some good info there too..
