So I've had my truck now for almost 2 weeks. Initially I was very underwhelmed with the sound. Compared to all standard factory radios I would have given it a 6 out of 10. It lacked crisp highs, deep bass, and the voice reproduction was artificial. It has adequate volume and reception. Compared to high end stereos in high end automobiles, think bowers and Wilkins... I would have rated it a 3. It was no where near a premium sound experience. Fast forward... believe it or not the speakers have broken in VERY nicely. They must have been extremely stiff. The dynamic range has improved, the highs are clearer and audible and the mid bass is clean. It still can grab that 10-15mhz body thumping bass but it's a small low profile sub. The voice reproduction is more natural, albeit still a little artificial. I'd revise my impression to say it's a 7.5out of 10 compared to a standard factory Radio and 4.5-5 out of 10 comparing it to a premium system. It went from being barely adequate to reasonable and workable. So when you get your truck... expect the radio will break in for you.
Hmmm, Yes i agree with the Audio is overwhelmingly lacking!!!!! I picked up my truck last Saturday so i'm at 7 days. I have almost 2000 mi on it and i rock out pretty hard to the 80"s hairbands!!!! All of the poor qualities that Guy listed are true. I'll one more issue about the poor quality and it's a Ford problem overall because I've experience it in multiple models. This radio goes to 30, it stops producing much past 24 though. Also I think it's the processor but when the note is more then it can handle it just mutes things down and then comes back up. I'm already sold on upgrading but i respect everyone to make their own decision based on what they are looking for out of their Audio system. At this price point in a vehical designed to Kick Ass, i expect the Audi to be at least a 9 or better. I rate the 802A audio a 5.
I agree completely. AC/DC doesn't come to life... it does however break in. It was worse the first week.
Ordered Alpine 5 channel amp, Focal speakers, JL 10' subs. Next week once it's all in i'll let you know how it sounds. Nobody Rides For Free!!!!!!
I have the focal component and 6.5 set ready for install. I can't wait to see how it sounds. Plus a 10 inch slim Ken wood excelon
i thought i read if u have the Sony System its integrated into center console so no way to upgrade or after market amp without breaking everything.
I was reading on the FRF gen 2 area, there's a guy that goes by Wassy, he did a stereo rework. He also lives in my area, and we met up for breakfast. The stereo sounds amazing. He has pictures detailing the work. He kept the stock head unit, added signal processors, amp or amps, replaced speakers, and added custom sub box under the left rear pass seat that looked like dual 8"s.
