From the research I have done it does not look like New York sells anything at invoice or even msrp. How many have traveled out of state for a better deal. Was it worth the time and effort?

Quite a few will find an out-of-state dealer to work with. At the end of the day, you have to figure out what your time is worth and factor that into travel costs, etc. I flew to Oklahoma to get mine, and would do it again. Really nice to get 12 hours of seat time and familiarize myself with the truck right away.

What kind of saving are we talking? 1-5k or 5k+ ?

It all varies. If you live in a state that has adjusted market values, than you could pay 5-10k over MSRP. At which point, traveling out of state makes sense. Other dealers will sell you the vehicle at MSRP, but then there are some others that will sell you the vehicle at invoice. So there is definitely savings to be had, but you'd likely need a good relationship with a dealer to get invoice on the first 2017's that come out.

Yeah, in Cali we end up paying 5-10k over msrp on any special edition type vehicle. Out of state is the way to go and Ford will have it delivered to a local dealer for only $250. You just have to check that box when you order. I ordered an RS and it was either pay 5k adm for a local dealer or go out of state and pay 250 delivery fee, no brainer.

Did you buy your truck over the phone?

That's interesting. I don't remember paying over MSRP when I ordered my 2011. Maybe 2017 will be different if demand has increased. Good option.

Meant to say that I bought mine in So. Cal.

Dealers can be so stupid. Especially some of the domestics. It's like they're stuck in the 70's. They don't know what this whole information superhighway is all about. Someone should fax them about it.:Big Laugh:

Paying MSRP is one thing but to pay 5-10k over MSRP is just throwing money out the window in my opinion. Buying a Ford is nothing like buying a Toyota thats for sure.

It was an RS, the new hatch, but yeah just falled the manger told them what I wanted and they put the order. On the order they marked it was being delivered to a different dealer. It was incredibly easy.

No hard numbers yet in the Raptor, but two norcal dealers have each said expect atleast 5k over if you want one of the first trucks.

Yeah... Ford has some of the worst dealers I have ever encountered. They also seem so shocked when you explain to them things about a new model they should know lol

I agree, but many areas out here in Cali there are lists of people that would pay an extra 5-10k just to be the first one on the block. I knew guys that were paying 20k adm just to have the first gt350s. Cali is a strange world.

I'm willing to travel a bit for $500 maybe $1000 over invoice. I'll be waiting if I can't get one for that. I never understood why someone would put themselves underwater on a vehicle from the start. Unless they know it's limited production and they want one bad enough. I remember having my name on the list for the fist 2005 GT500 at a local dealer but I backed out because they decided to get 20k over sticker. The people that bought the first year have to be hating themselves for paying over sticker on those.

@rbernard1984, when are the Focus RS expected to hit the lots? i've been looking for a fun daily and that one has been peaking my interest for some time. my commute too might get a lot longer in a few months and would like to have something with a smaller footprint. dealers around me are between msrp and $5k adm.

It was supposed to be here by now, the dealer still isn't sure, Ford updated the delivery to "summer." There were a few at MSRP but they got reseved fast, most cars that I have still seen available are 5-10k adm. It looks like an awesome little car thought!

There are guys over at a Mustang board, not exactly bragging but admitting that they paid $5-15K over sticker for the new GT350. They say that their time is worth more as they can make more per hour than it would take to find one for sticker lol.
