Just sent this to my dealership....

On August 5th, I placed an order for a 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor with a $2,500 deposit. At the time of the order, I was told to expect delivery between mid-late October. The truck was built on October 27th. I was then told on November 3rd that it was in "auto port," would take about 3 weeks for transportation, and to expect the vehicle no later than Thanksgiving. On November 9th, I was again told to expect it by late November. On November 18th, I expressed concern there may be an issue with the vehicle as it had not shipped to date. I was told there was no issue, only that the plant was backed up and slower than they should be. On November 21st, I was told that the vehicle was at a "graphics shop" and once done it would be shipped. On December 5th, I was told that a "trace" was opened for the vehicle and it should ship "any day." Also that the reason for the hold up was that the U.S. hadn't accepted the EPA ratings on the Raptors. Yesterday, December 6th, I read multiple news articles from Wall Street Journal, Reuters, etc, that the vehicles are being held at the plant due to "glitches with the new 10-speed transmission." This was primarily concerning early build vehicles, such as mine, and had been addressed already for newer builds. Leading me to believe that later build vehicles would be more likely to ship while the earlier ones would need more QA prior to being released.
The misinformation I've received to this date, either intentional or not, is not inspiring confidence in the vehicle. What reassurances will I have that this new vehicle will have the reliability I'm looking for? Would Ford be willing to extend the powertrain warranty for the vehicles currently being held at Dearborn? Do I need to cancel this order and place another one in order to know that I will receive a vehicle that has all potential problems rectified?
    Thank you.

    OSC_Don:

Great write up and idea. I stole your idea an built upon it some. I just sent the below to my dealer, so we'll see if it does any good...I'll keep the forum posted.

On July 19th, I placed an order for a 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor with a $2,500 deposit. At the time of the order, I was told to expect delivery between the end of October and Thanksgiving.

The order was formally placed with Ford on July 23rd, the VIN was assigned on or around September 2nd, and the truck was actually build in Dearborn on October 23rd. Since then it has been sitting on Ramp 59 in Dearborn, and I have received two ETAs for delivery dates that have come and gone (11/13 and then 11/22).

Yesterday, December 6th, I read multiple news articles from Wall Street Journal, Reuters, etc, that the vehicles are being held at the plant due to “glitches with the new 10-speed transmission.” This was primarily concerning early build vehicles, such as mine, and had been addressed with the production line for newer builds. This leads me to believe that later build vehicles would be more likely to ship, while the earlier built ones would need more QA prior to being released. As of this morning, there are confirmed reports that dealerships are beginning to receiving recent build Raptors.

These delays and lack of accurate information has not inspired confidence in the early build Raptors, and leads to further concerns over when early builds may actually ship. So a few questions:
      • Will (Dealer) be willing to provide an Extended Warranty on this early build vehicle to provide piece-of-mind?
      • Would there be an option for (Dealer) to find another Raptor allocation build similar to mine coming of the production line to redirect in place of mine?
      • Since I continue to rack up miles on my current vehicle, further reducing it’s trade-in value, is there an option for (Dealer) to provide a loaner or rental vehicle in place until the Raptor arrives?
I truly appreciate your thoughts and expertise with regards to this inquiry, and I look forward to hearing back from you soon.

    Good write up.
Having worked for Ford for 25 years, I can attest to your lack of confidence in their chain of information. Yep, they suck at that shit.
If it was my order, I would just hang on for a bit, we tend to get these trucks out of here very quickly. (ones that needed extra tlc)
About the dealership inquires? No idea. But good luck.

Dan, again thank you for your inside information! I personally appreciate it. My raptor has been built since 10/28 and am trying my best to be patient! Especially tuff after I visited the plant and saw all those raptors being built and just sitting in that huge lot! Thanks again

For what it's worth, my dealer just texted me a screen shot from their systems showing me my Order Number and VIN is now IN TRANSIT!

Build date was 10/23 and it's been in limbo at Ramp 59 ever since.

The image was from the "Ford Order Fulfillment Vehicle Visibility" screen and shows the Primary Status as "In Transit" and the Secondary Status as "Arrived at Junction Point (Norfolk Southern Corp)" in Salem, IL.

That's a 469 mile journey in the right direction (Houston)! We'll see how it continues to progress but it looks like this is the first confirmed October build on the move I've heard about.

Hi Dan, Like many others we appreciate your input on the forum.

I was wondering how many of the gen 2 builds were affected by the 10 speed retrofitting? possibly a date range for the defective equipment?

I have no idea how many were affected or the time period involved. The only sure date I can tell you is since Thanksgiving we have been building the 10r nonstop.

That great news! I'm hoping I will get some good news soon. My build date was 10/19. I am glad to hear that there is some movement with the Oct. builds. Post your pics when ya get it.

I'm convinced I screwed myself by ordering, canceling, then reordering the carbon fiber package. The factory is laughing at me, I know it....
