I watched the market for a while and researched for the exact Raptor I wanted when I bought my 2012. At that time, the economy was a lot slower and weaker than what it is now (not that it's great now) and the dealer I purchased my '12 from was so desperate to sell a truck, the negotiations were painless and I walked out with what I thought was a good deal- less than invoice.

So my question is.....for guys that have purchased these trucks new (as in new release) did you find that there was a better deal and less of a cost when you ordered your trucks from the dealer or when you walked in a bought one that was on the lot?

I am an impulsive person and do like my purchases immediately but for large ticket items, I have no problem waiting a couple of months if it is going to save me some dough. My truck now is fine and will last another 10years but I think I'm in love with the 17s.

Thanks for the info and help...Chase

Ford has been killing it with their performance models as of late so there is a very good chance if you buy directly off the lot you will pay a premium for that particular one. All dealers get an allocation of how many they get to order themselves and throw on the lot to sell so they are going to put a premium on those particular allocated vehicles. Dealers can customer order as many as they want so youll get a better deal if you order and wait (in most cases).

I just came back from a dealership just now, and he told me that when customers order a vehicle that does take away from their allocation.

Does that make sense or can that be true

Your dealership is wrong. Many dealerships get a very limited amount of allocations on specialty vehicles (0-3...).

Allocations are vehicles the dealer is able to order themselves and put on the showroom floor to drum up business and interest. They order to their liking. For something like a gt350 or gt350r most dealers wont get any allocations and a few high volume dealers will get a few. Now those are a very limited production vehicle, 500 or less.

The Raptor is not a specialty vehicle this time around, its just a trim level. The dealer will still probably only get a few allocations for the first ones that they can order and those first ones are going to go way over MSRP, thats the beauty of a dealer ordered allocation.

Now Ford has come out and said that ANYONE who wants the new Ford Raptor will be able to get one, meaning its not a limited production vehicle and they will meet order demands as necessary.

A dealer can order however many they want usually as long as those being ordered have a drivers license or customer attached to them. They cant just order 5000 Raptors and call it a day, they have to be customer ordered.

Some dealers are just in the dark and dont realize the Raptor isnt a specialty vehicle the same way a gt350r is.

Completely disagree! it is true there is no more SVT, I disagree with the notion/statement of Raptor as just a trim package. I do not consider a completely different suspension, HO 3.5 twin turbo and several other complete differences from any other F150 as just a trim package. the dealership I go thru is a very high volume store. they currently have 2 pages of people on the list for a 2017 raptor. The raptor will never be available as a Lariat, king ranch, FX4 , ect trim package. The notion of several Raptor sitting on a ford lot to drum up business is completely unrealistic. lets just see how this one plays out shall we?

So Ford is full of shit when they have stated numerous times that anyone can get a Raptor that wants a Raptor? Thats not a specialty vehicle if anyone who wants one can get one.

Anyone who wants a gt350r cant get one. Anyone who wants a Ford GT cant get one. Those are specialty vehicles. The Raptor is not in the same category.

Recommend anyone who wants a early edition Raptor to go to your local ford dealership and get your name on a list..
