Hi guys, Sorry in advance if this has been discussed before. My 2017 Raptor has had a recurrent oil leak, both times coming from the plastic oil pan. The initial oil leak started at around 17,300 miles on my 4th oil change. I’ve heard of some guys having to replace the oil pan 4 or 5 times. I am pretty upset about this and have called Ford Costumer Service. I also heard that late model year 2018’s and 2019’s went back to metal oil pans because of this same issue. I am considering starting a lemon law lawsuit if Ford doesn’t give me a satisfactory resolution. Has anyone on here had the same oil leaking issue as me? What has Ford done for you guys? Has anyone been able get Ford to replace their oil pan with a metal one? Any other thoughts? I otherwise love my truck and would get another one in a heart beat.
Unfortunately, I have heard of a few issues with the plastic pan. It can take a few tries to get it right. I'm sure that's why Ford changed it back to metal for later 18+. I don't blame you at all for being upset about it. I would discuss some options with your dealer. I know of a few guys that ditched the plastic one for the metal one. Not sure if they had any help from the dealer though. Maybe see if you can work something out. I'd be surprised if there wasn't a service bulletin on this.
They don't fit the same for some reason so if you want the metal pan there's some modification needed, which I've heard some people have to pay for, to get it to fit properly.
The plastic oil pan leaking from cracks is a widespread issue across all f150 and expedition/navigator. There is extensive history of this, and vast knowledge of swapping to metal pan. It's not easy work. You need the pan, gasket and the oil pickup for that.
So just an update on my situation. I called Ford Support and they kept trying to delay and kept saying that the problem is fixed so don't worry about it. I kept pushing them for some sort of compensation and concern for recurrent problems and finally they offered me a 3 yr extension on my power train warranty. However, by now I decided that I don't want to keep my truck and that it would most likely continue to have issues and the fact that 2019 trucks are heavily discount I decided to trade it in for a new 2019 Raptor. Ford did not want to give me any money/refund so I reached out to a lemon law lawyer who took my case and got me $3,000 from Ford. So I was able to get a great deal on a new 2019 Raptor and $3,000 from Ford so things worked out well. The new Raptor drives completely different than the 2017, it doesn't have transmission issues, it hasn't had any recalls and it has a metal oil which I just did a first oil change at 1,800 miles and there were no issues reported. So if you're continuing to have oil leak issues or have had oil leak issues I would definitely either get in touch with a lemon lawyer or call Ford and demand an extended warranty.
Is that the best ya got? I am sorry you made a poor financial choice. Ecoboost owners have nobody to blame but themselves.
Oh no, I have a lot better than that. I'm not 12 years old anymore though. Last time I checked, the Raptor was the wisest choice I've made on a vehicle in a long time. Still worth quite a bit because it didn't depreciate half as much as most vehicles. I can understand your envy, but try to be an adult about it.
Ha - no envy from me. I will wait to get another Raptor when the v8 comes back. It is sooner than you think.
