I’m sorry to beat a dead horse in regard to oil consumption in the eco-boost engine. I went to the Ford dealership in Turlock California and spoke with one of their service advisors. I won’t mention names...Curtis told me that 2.5 quarts of oil in 2500 miles of driving was normal and acceptable for this engine. My engine currently has 5200 miles on it and runs great! It does not leak oil just burns it! Out of all the other vehicles I’ve owned (GM Duramax) I’ve never had an engine that uses oil like this one. I got into a debate with the service advisor who tried to tell me that their factory oil ,a blend, that came with the Ford raptor was a higher quality oil than the Mobile One synthetic 5-30 and my K&N oil filter. I would like to know if there are any other Ford raptor owners out there that are having oil consumption issues within the first 10,000 miles. The service advisor also said that the eco-boost engine isn’t broken in until it reaches 10,000 miles. I found that hard to believe. I am looking for input. Who is the authority on this subject?
I used about a quart during the first 8,500 miles. After the first oil change it has not used a drop. I’m at about 22,000 now. Mostly drive on the highway and occasionally hard on it.
Yes, oil consumption is an issue on these ecoboost engines. Ford has issued a notice detailing oil consumption and what to do. Ford is replacing valve covers and gaskets as a short term fix. Do not ever think oil consumption of any amount is acceptable.
Mine was about mid way up the dipstick when I first checked it. That was at 600 miles. I had it changed at 1000 miles. I have since added a 1/2 quart @ around 3500 miles. I am changing the oil again this weekend @ 4500 miles. Mine is an 18. So yes, seems to be burning a little oil. I do drive it hard just playing around fairly often.
I have 2019 Raptor. It burnt entire engine oil at 3200 miles and now at 5200 miles its barely touch the dip stick. So its pretty much out again and my timing chain is making noice. I called dealership who i suppose to take it back and they have no time to take a look at it.
I have a 2019 with 11500 miles, I used 3.5 quarts in the first 6000 miles. I had the oil changed at the dealership. I havent used any oil in the last 5500 miles.
Picked up my '19 the third week of August. Changed the oil at 2,500 miles and was down maybe a pint. I'll definitely monitor. I did have an '80 model Z-28 Camaro that burned about a quart every 1,000 miles in town and about a quart every 300 on the highway. Dealer wouldn't even address the issue so I got rid of the car. Odd that I ended up meeting the second owner when it had about 10,000 miles on it and it was no longer using oil. To this date the only logical answer I have ever gotten from anyone was that the rings finally seated. Your guess is a good as mine!
The oil consumption is a problem... It was a bad manufacturing job by the supplier. I am not sure they know the amount of problematic engines, but at least the correct valve cover fixes it.
My 2019 lost a quart every tank for the first few thousand miles. By 10,000 miles I'd had the oil changed three times and the oil loss slowed to a quart every 1000 miles. But at 10,000 miles it began smoking at idle. Not just a little smoke, either. A cloud of smoke that trailed the truck for miles. I'm waiting right now for my dealership to change the valve covers. Apparently there's a flaw in the PCV system that's built into the valve covers.
The more I think about this issue where the tech or tech's are telling people that using oil is commonplace for this motor (or for any sound motor) is haven them show you where in the owners manual or on any Ford titled/endorsed piece of literature. Cause if I'd gotten mine home and read that in the owners manual I'd have taken it back. That is such bullshit. The only other place that kind of bullshit logic is acceptable is government. Take these trucks in and let them know either fix it, buy it back, give you another one or you're going to an attorney. I mean really, you can't buy a cheap lawn mower that says in the new paperwork its going to use oil excessively. This is a no brainer.
