Hey guys. I need your help. I just bought a used 2017 Ford raptor. It has 35K miles. Driven it for 2 weeks and noticed that it has started down shifting REALLY HARD between 5-4-3 gears. So much so my wife and eight year old asked “ What was that?”
It’s been at the dealership over a week and they just called saying there’s not a problem and it’s just the way the 10 speeds are.
What do I do?? I know there’s a problem and the transmission tech doesn’t sound like he’s going to do anything.

The truck will downshift a bit hard in sport mode. Are you in auto or sport mode?

Mine was doing that and they needed to replace the valve body. It has been smooth since then.

its definitely not normal, my 2019 is really smooth, However mine did it a couple times when new out of the dealer and same thing happened with a Cherokee SRT8 I used to have, the transmission is supposed to adapt to the way you drive, so I blamed it on the transmission software because it only happened the first 2 days I drove them new and never again after that. I guess it can also happen if you change the battery. Do you know if he previous owner loaded any aftermarket tune?

Thanks for the help everyone. The mechanic drove it one more time and did admit it was shifting a little hard.
They updated the PCM and it seemed to solve the problem. The down shift has been good ever since.
Sometimes it up shifts hard from 4th to 5th but nothing worth complaining about. From what I understand, Raptors shift pretty hard. This is my first one.
I happen to recently rent and drive a 2019 Ford Expedition and honestly wish my Raptor shifted as smooth as it :/

This is not normal. I just took my 2018 in and a new software update was completed and they cleared out the adaptive learning component. it will take several days to start working correctly. have them do the update on the power train PCM. this is under a service bulletin on vehicles built before May 2018.

ENGINE KNOCKING ON STARTUP. BRAND NEW 19 RAPTOR ONLY 700 MILES ON IT. THE KNOCK IS EASILY NOTICEABLE FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE KNOCKING IS COMING FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT OF THE ENGINE RIGHT WERE THE 2 TVV SOLENOIDS SIT. THIS OCCURS EVERY DAY. THE AMOUNT OF KNOCKING FOLLOWS AN INCREASE IN ENGINE RPM. TECHNICIAN SAID THAT ITS NOT NORMAL, BUT FORD WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE I HAD NO ENGINE LIGHT AND OR FAULT CODES. THEY LET ME LISTEN TO THE TRUCK ON THEIR LOT AND IT DID NOT MAKE THE SAME NOISE. ANY ADVISE.

So, my truck is shifting hard again. I read on a post where you could pull the negative terminal off the battery, turn lights on, and wait for 20 minutes and that would reset the PCM. I just got done and it seems it made it a little worse. When I did this, do you think it reset to factory and lost my recent PCM update???

I don’t know what to do. Dealership is so backed up I can’t get it in for a month!! Thinking about getting rid of it

It will take time though when you reset. Couple of weeks or so of driving to learn your style. Give it a lil time and hit that pedal like you normally would and it will learn
