Have had a first gen raptor since 2010 and have been extremely pleased with it. Lots of 2017 raptor haters on the old forum. I'm guessing if I spent 60k on a 1st gen raptor in 2014 Id be a bit bummed that a new gen is gonna kik ass! Dealerships are only allotted a certain number of raptors so if your looking for a 2017 you better get your name on the waiting list. Wife works for ford dealership. Im #2 on their list..

What is involved in getting on a list ?? Does that mean you get to buy in advance of someone who walks in from street?
Do you have to put a deposit down? Is it refundable

You have to go to your dealership of choice and put your name on a list for the new raptor. Deposits aren't required until you place your build sheet and order. As for buying in advance of someone off the street. Yes once your order is placed you are in. Someone off the street may or may not find new raptors on dealership lots. After you place your order you can actually track where your truck is regarding progress on the assembly line. Only after you get your Vin#.

That they can order and put on their showroom floor to drum up interest but they are not limited to how many they can custom order for customers who are willing to order and wait.

Dealers will have limited allocations (on the lot orders) early on. That does not affect the amount of retail orders (customer off the street special ordering) that they can place. Most dealers will want to use their allocations to order loaded up trucks in order to maximize profit. I also have family that works at a ford dealer. Was just going over this Saturday while I was there for an oil change. They are more than likely going to order a retail order for myself and an identical truck for an allocation. That way I can have whichever shows up first. If it goes like ordering my 2011 did the allocations will show before my retail order.

No one is 100% sure other than guesses because the 17 f150 orders open up 7-18.

It's like even now dealers are able to order the 17 super duty and still don't have hp/tq specs on them. Hope it's not the case with the raptor as well.

lets not forget that a re-tool of assembly lines is required to build the raptor. They wont be coming off the same lines as the f-150. not sure that pre orders for the new raptor will be at the same time as the 17 f150's. I've also heard rumors that the new raptors wont be built in Dearborn.
