Hey all, I have a 6 month old perfectly functional pedal commander for sale for 200 firm. Im in the denver area. If you aren't familiar with the pedal commander It completely changes the truck for the better. Only reason Im selling it is I sold the truck.
Hey, multiple factors when viewed in the face of an approaching 60k around the corner and a warranty extension needed adding to the overall cost of ownership. I still owed a fair amount on the truck but would have kept it if there was less chatter about failing parts and more data over time. Its not Fords fault they built a beast and its just a new world still for the transmission and long term reliability ; here's the list I feel this could be a useful read for prospective buyers and write this to help inform people, not to be a list of complaints. I owned the truck since being one of first to drive it off the lot. I drove it in all sorts of conditions. FIRST, The good stuff! The Rappy was a BEAST for 2 years. Im fairly convinced I got it to a sub 5 second truck, it smoked up passes loaded with a snowmobile. It ate rocks on passes, It was a super car in truck form,,,,, but that comes with a downside... Per below. In the end it was too much complexity, too much electronics, I felt a general rising gut feeling problem trusting the longevity of the truck and decided to sell it at peak value before announced body changes or the 2017's got too old to hold their resale curve. It was just a gut feeling but that feeling wouldn't go away with me. It is what it is The concerns I had: 1. Very nebulous warranty data, what you can and can't do to your truck was a cause of anxiety. I couldn't build it anymore than I did 2. Complex electrical systems and terrain management systems I couldn't trust based on general sentiment and anecdotal stories from others - I simply couldn't afford to be in utah and have a terrain management wrench show up or not have it start on me which I feared versus my previous builds 3. Discussion with trusted people within ford at one of highest raptor volume dealers in the country that they were having issues with the 4th and 5th gear valves in the tranny. 4. I actually hated the 10 speed transmission in the mountains. It required very frequent 4-5 tap attention on the paddles for engine braking on the passes, maybe small issue for some but I found it distracting. Too many moving parts in the transmission to trust it long term. It shifted bizarrely nearly the entire time I had the truck anyways. 5. General quality of the build, seals were falling apart in the door, the issues with the sunroof 6. My general feeling that I was driving a future electrical time bomb and possible paperweight after 60k, I couldn't help it. 7. Practicality, I wanted more drivable car, that I could do a dedicated overland build on, I live in the high country, tight mining roads are the norm, The switchback problem with the long wheelbase wasn't something I wanted to be a guinea pig on with the trails around silverton, or long routes in Utah even the I'm sure the raptor could kill it easily. 8. I found the culture around raptors really pretty boring in Colorado compared to jeep or the toyota set that has a robust set of options for builds, overland journals, and stories online. My impression is that most people buy the truck as a do it all utility machine, its too expensive to hammer it for most so they keep it off trail, or they are older and dont really care. Thats ok, Im not upset by it, just my impression. I ran out of shit to read. In all please take my opinion as my personal feelings, I do think in general its the most fun vehicle Ive owned but will only considering coming back to the truck if they put a V8 back in it, or another tried and true engine and transmission with much more long term data supporting it.
Sorry to hear that Brapptor. Most of what you said I believe is true on all newer vehicles. I'm not a fan of the 10 speed either, but it is going to become the norm I believe. GMC is putting it their new trucks, and of course Ford is putting it in several vehicles. Shit, my wifes new Caddy has a 9 speed with a twin turbo 4 banger. There's your tranny and small turbo engine. There will still be V8s, but I think there will be fewer and fewer. So what did you replace it with? Best of luck.
Hey there Vikes, I agree, there are a lot of pressures on the automakers for fuel efficiency leading to the new trannies and turbos and agree V8's aren't their first choice as new engines. In going after my plan for overlanding and general practicality and reliability I wanted a shorter wheelbase as well, more crawlability and approach and departure angle considerations were important. I ended up going with a 2019 TRD off road 4runner. putting a 3 inch fox reservoir suspension on it this week. Of course there are things I miss about the raptor but this works well for me and I really love it so far.
Thanks for the write up and best of luck to you goin forward. You always shared some great info here, thanks for that
Hey Man, MPT doesn't have tunes yet for the 2019s, so I'm thinking of going the PC route till the tunes come out. Do you still have this for sale and will it fit a 2019? Had one on my 2017 before the MPT tune and it was a great improvement. LMK, thanks!
