Anyone else read that article about the new 10 speed transmission (for use in both the raptor, zl1, and I'm sure many others) shifting faster than the Porsche pdk on the 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4? Seriously impressive and will provide a completely new level of control both on road and off. Also, the ZL1 will make 640hp and 640 tq, so you know the strength is there to support engine modifications that are sure to come....quickly after they release the new 3.5.

Preselects the next gear so you can shift instantly. I have driven similar transmissions, but until now only in performance cars - this will be a new level.

Curious as to why 3 of the 10 speeds need to be overdrive, so in reality it's not a lot more acceleration gears as most may be thinking, or I could be wrong.

Do you guys figure this transmission will be built to the spec of the ZL1? Watching videos of the tranny being built in the factory was me concerned. I have faith in ford, but they mention "weight saving" and "smaller" way to many times. There is alot less clutch disks in there.

Most vehicles have 3 acceleration gears, 1 final drive, and 1 (or 2) over drives.
This 10speed will have 6 acceleration gears, 1 final d, and 3 OD. There is a huge spread here man, and 2x the acceleration gears (of the average transmission)

what's the problem? 3 outta 10 are over 1:1, leaving 6 forward gears that shift at least as fast as a PDK before getting to 7th at even par. That be pretty bad ass in my book.
In regard to it being the same as the ZL1 trans, yes. Why the hell would they build it lighter to go into a vehicle that is 1700 pounds heavier??? Corporate might do some stupid shit occasionally, (or more) but I don't think so this time.

Keep in mind that while the design concepts are the same, the tranny will obviously be built in different factories, using different clutch materials, (ect. Ect.), so I am just not sure they would build the raptor tranny up to 640hp spec. Although I really hope they do. I believe they will try to make a statement with the 10speed, and if they start to burn out after guys have been torturing them for 1 year, that will give the '18 f150 a bad start.

Also remember, the stnd F150 with the 3.5L Ecoboost also gets this 10 speed trans and with that engine will have 3.73 rear end with the Raptor having 4.10 rear end. I certainly won't mind the 3 overdrive gears.
I know I'm saying that when I'm paying $75,000 plus, but it is a plus that I don't have with my 5 speed in my King Ranch.
