If a V8 was an option, would you still go with the 3.5 EB?

If a V8 was an option, would you still go with the 3.5 EB?

  1. 3.5 EB

  2. V8 - TT 5.0, N/A 5.2, and the big dawg 6.2

  3. Speculating a V8 upgrade is like $10K, despite wanting it, rule it out from a cost standpoint

  4. Gremlins bro

I'm kind of the opposite. I cut my teeth on gas turbos but my only experience with diesels is NA.

I realize that I represent the minority opinion but I am a believer in modern turbo charged engines.
Porsche, BMW, Mercedes are all transitioning to turbo charges engines.

Ford's own fun/performance vehicles are turbo charged e.g. Focus RS, Focus ST, Fiesta ST.

I think the combination of power gains, weight reduction and fuel economy improvement is a compelling argument in favor of turbo charging.

I would honestly go with the V8 TT, assuming of course, the power levels were substantial. However, I come from a turbo background and I honestly love tuning it.

I love my Gen 1 however, all the upgrades available on the new Gen 2 clearly made up my mind regardless of v6 or v8.

If the V8 gave it a higher power to weight ratio, id be all in on a V8. They've invested a lot of money into this EB, I don't see them all of a sudden wanting to backpedal to a 6.2 again.

I drove a '12 Raptor yesterday, back to back with a current 3.5 ecoboost. The salesman knows that I want to order one when they come available, and he was worried that I'd think the Raptor suspension was too soft, since I don't like a lot of body roll or 'wallowy' feel in anything I drive. So when a used one showed up, he gave me a call to drop by and take it for a spin.

Anyway, at the risk of attracting the forum's ire, I have to say that the 3.5 had far more kick to it than the Raptor. Part of that I'm sure was that this particular Raptor had 60k on it, and clearly some hard miles mixed in there; but when it comes down to it, the turbo engine just has a ton of torque right where you want it.

And man, the new interiors are so sweet when compared to the last model.

I test drove both new and by far would rather have the 6.2 especially with the headers, CAI drove it that way was awesome then put a tune on it and wow. I'm thinking if you tune the new raptor you're on your own for repair's and I'm not down for that.

why becose it's already pushing the power we are putting to the ground, you'll be breaking stuff, snapping drive lines and all kind's of crap.

I just dont think parts will be pushed that hard with a little added power. Maybe if you upgrade the turbos and add 100HP but at that point you would most likely need new internals on the motor anyway.

100hp and new internals on a turbo motor? Most likely not on this motor. A tune, CAI, and some exhaust bits will give you 100hp on this motor pretty easily Im guessing. The new 10 speed is going to be able to handle probably 800+hp. What youre going to have to worry about is everything down stream of the motor and tranny.

I am use to a NA 2.0 4 cylinder Subaru. Nothing is as easy as A tune, CAI, and some exhaust bits. I am really looking forward to seeing what this motor can do.

Gen 1s got me in the poor house...I couldn't do a Gen 2 anything if I wanted to at this point...that said...i'd probably go with the 8, nothing against the EB, good solid motor, just not my preference. Owned the original 3.5L...powerful yes, but just didn't do it for me. No butthurt here, bashing either one is pointless since it's been beaten to death all over the place.

The potential the comes out of a turbo motor compared to a NA motor is substantial. I have a lightly modded 2.5 turbo subie and even the smallest tweaks wake those motors up.
