    Hey guys,
I'm writing this with a sick feeling that something is wrong with my new Raptor.
I've got roughly 4k on my 2018 Leadfoot and it started making a noise on start up. Sounded like a diesel truck start up. I made appointment with dealer and the very next day the truck wouldn't start. Took 3 attempts. A few hours after that I notice the check engine light came on. Ford Pass said that I had a MISFIRE and needed service. Took to dealer and truck was 2 quarts low on oil. I had just checked the oil and it was fine two weeks ago. Dealer says it was also throwing a code related to the Cams.
The service manager was very nice and he said some Ecoboosts just burn oil. They don't know why it happens in some and not in others. Ford says that it can burn up to 1 quart every 500 miles under extreme heavy use. My truck has never had either of those. My truck is stock and never seen a dirt road. The most it's hauled is a few sheets of plywood. I really haven't even put the truck through its paces yet. Never been in BAJA or Rock Crawl modes. Giving it a nice slow break in. Is this really considered normal oil consumption? Anyone else have this issue? Should I be worried?

    Sorry to hear!
Yes, referring to Vikes reply... look around here on some other posts about some random issues.

I would say no this isn't normal.

I've triggered both the Cam sensor and the misfire code. Both were my own fault and quickly resolved. Burning oil at that rate would tell me there's a problem. If the misfire is tied to it then i would bet you have a bad head gasket and your getting oil in one or more cylinders. Sucks yes but fixable and rarely but this does happen.

No i wouldn't except from the dealer that this is normal or acceptable. I'f be taking my truck to a different dealer and then next would be calling Ford Performance for guidance to get resolutions if the dealers are providing the needed support.

Rapere 1 is spot on. Isn’t normal or acceptable. I too have had the 2 code previously mentioned. Both cleared, no return of these codes. His suggestion to contact the SVT group is a must do regardless of the dealership input. I’ve been involved with Raptors
since the 2009/2010 model. This is my third truck. The performance group has always been great!! Keep us posted...

Update: finally there is a service bulletin on burning oil.
Going in to be worked on next week.
Any others had a loss of power and stalling during the first 10 minutes of driving? Not a turbo lag issue. When this occurs the RPM’s are always under 2k and I’m just rolling out not attempting a quick acceleration.
Sounds as if it’s going to die but then sputters and begins to slowly resume normal driving.

Could replacing the valve covers be the fix for all this?

This happened to a friend of mines 2018 raptor with 7000 miles. I know because I was driving it. I’m waiting to order a 2019. I left the parking lot gave it some gas and it basically kind of shut down to 10% power. Check engine light came on. Stopped the truck and then restarted it. Check engine light came(possibly low oil)on again and I just drove it slow back to Valet. He put the truck in the shop and they kept it for roughly 3 weeks. They said it was Low on oil, very low. I called the service manager myself because I wanted to know about possible issues. I have read about this issue on this and another forums. He said the oil would not show up on the driveway because it was being burned with in the cylinder if I’m not mistaken . I believe he said he had to replace the cylinder per ford, but he said he could not guarantee that Shavings did not get into the engine. So he replaced it. It didn’t sound like he had to replace the engine or ford asked him to but he did. Now I don’t know this for sure, but he said he felt better about replacing the engine. This is a dealer in Austin Texas. This friend of mine has bought multiple vehicles from here. The service manager sounded like a real standup guy. I’m very sorry to hear about this I know how aggravating something like this can be. I hope it is resolved in the 19s

It actually won't be fixed in the 19... Same design. This 3.5 ecoboost has some awful design flaws and Ford is drowning in service with these. I have no idea why people would want to buy anything with this engine in it.

Yep, I have almost 70,000 miles on a 3.5 eco and not 1 engine problem so it's a terrible idea to buy one.

Bravo, explain again why you are here spewing your shitty gossip.

Exactly, 23k and no issues. Some issues sure, but again its not proven unless you have the numbers from 17 and 18 on production and the engine or transmission issues compared to what sold Bravo.

Update: Totally bummed, Raptor was repaired at 4500 miles. Entire valve train replaced. Seemed to work okay for a while. Still gave me trouble starting at times. I took in to FORD service and they said everything was okay and it didn't perform poorly for them. 2 weeks later Raptor completely died on me. Engine turned off and I lost all ability to steer. Luckily I had just exited the interstate and was only going 35mph. It was so painful to have one on most awesome vehicles on the planet actually break down in the middle of a paved road. Cars were driving around me blowing there horns. I wanted to crawl under the truck. Seeing the tow truck drag my baby up that ramp also sucked. I couldn't even get the truck into neutral for the guy. FORD service called and they said that it threw 14 different error codes. They said it came from so many unrelated areas that they could not narrow it down for repair. FORD service said they have never seen anything like it. FORD USA called and they said my RAPTOR was unsafe and qualified for repurchase or replacement. Which would you guys do? Try a new Raptor? Or take the money and run?

Get your BS out of here Bravo. Clueless you are as I mentioned before, Im at 24k, no oil issues, no turbo problems or transmissions issues or whatever you buddies and you decide to post and overestimate the problems to our Raptor buds. If you cant contribute positively, get off of the forum chief.
