Just how fast will this new truck be?
    (Gen 1 supercharged fast!)

The 2017 model (both the one you’ll be able to buy later this year and the one being raced) benefits from a new 10-speed transmission with paddle shifters, a 3.5-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 motor that shares its block with the forthcoming Ford GT supercar, a unique-to-the-Raptor frame that, like all other new F-150s is now fully boxed for strength, and a track width that’s now six inches wider than the regular F-150's.

With the launch still several months away, Ford remains cagey. They’ve stated that it’s a full 25 percent faster than the previous Raptor around its 62-mile off-road test track in Anza Borrego, California, but the company hasn't yet released hard performance figures. So we pushed Hameedi for more information.

“You know how people were putting superchargers on the first generation Raptor? The new one can keep up with some of those,” the engineer reluctantly admitted. Both Roush and Hennessy bolted superchargers to first generation Raptors for consumers.

With the new Raptor having at least 450 bhp and 450 pound-feet of torque, which tuner truck will it keep up with? Pushed further, Hameedi said, “The Roush, the new Raptor will keep up with that.” And that should mean a 1/4-mile time in the 13 second range. That’s nearly as quick as the new Ford Mustang GT

Also weighing 500 pounds less and fitted with .5-inch larger shocks, that capability should be even better. “The suspension now has to do less with more,” says Jamal Hameedi.
“As much more capable than the first generation Raptor was over the regular F-150 it was based on, the 2017 Raptor will be over the first generation Raptor,” he says.

certainly going to be interesting to see when someone does a side by side comparison on a track. if i'm on a track though, i'd much rather be in a vehicle designed for that purpose. but someone should do it...just so we can watch, would be cool either way.

In some ways I'm looking forward to this truck more than when I ordered my GT350.

I don't see how an estimated 450hp and 500 less lbs is going to keep up with a supercharged raptor unless he was referring to a supercharged rousch 5.4 in the early 2010 model? Definitely not a s/c 6.2 not with a whipple but I know she will be quicker than a stock 6.2.

Perhaps this is where the 500hp rumor came from?

Referring to the 5.4 when he made that comment would be pretty disingenuous and fairly stupid for someone in Jamal's position to say.

Like "true dual exhaust" was a smart comment? I just assumed true dual exhaust meant headers back true dual. Maybe the definition has changed, so I could be mistaken......

I don't know why that would be stupid? They made a fair amount of raptors with the 5.4 litre and it wasn't a slouch by any means. With the addition of a supercharger by rousch it would make about the same hp as the new 3.5 ecoboost, so why so much hate brother? Just stating facts not fiction here.

What I meant by what I said is that it would be disingenuous for Jamal to be referring to the 5.4 version of the Raptor instead of and in place of the 6.2, which is the most recent model. That would be misleading, and not relevant as everyone would be think that he would logically be comparing the Gen II with the most recent product from Ford.

I can see your point totally, but I was looking at it in a different perspective, the gen1 came out with the 5.4 and then the 6.2, the gen2 is coming out with the 3.5 and who knows if Ford will offer another power plant later on or not. They (ford) kept everybody in the dark about the 6.2 at first as well. That's why I was assuming he may have been referring to the s/c 5.4

If the new Raptor makes 511 hp, then he's statement would be fairly accurate. When I first got my Whipple on my 2013, it made 566 bhp. With 6200 lb, that comes out to 10.95 lbs per hp. Factoring 511 hp and 5700 lb, that comes out to 11.15 lbs per hp. That's pretty close. Now we know that 511 hp is far from confirmed, so we'll just have to wait and see.

    My .02-
Ford knew damn well that they were going to have a lot of resistance from their customer base when they decided to put the EB in the Raptor. I'm going to say it's a big mistake to stay tight lipped about the power output of it so close to the release date. We've all seen the 2 sides of the debate of V8 vs V6 which is old. My guess is that the EB is going to produce around 450 HP and approx equal torque. BUT... Ford is going to make the PCM harder to unlock for tuners. When the tuners figure the PCM out, it will be an easy 100 HP in the tune alone. Again, just my .02.

Ford Performance will most likely come out with their own tuner.
