Hey Guys, just got a 2018 Raptor and looking to make some changes. I've been looking at intercooler upgrades and just wondering if anyone has ran into any warranty problems? TIA
You will have potential warranty issues. I’ve dealt with Ford for over 35 years. Just assume Ford will determine any issues related to the power plant on your truck will be attributed to the intercooler modification
the answer is "it depends". Meaning it depends on the dealership's knowledge and mindset as well as which brand intercooler you use. I know we have some dealerships who purchase intercoolers and install them on customer vehicles and others who wont do more than a catback.
I know that a dealership used to make its own decision on these things. Now most warranty issues they need big Ford to approve them. Here is an example I ran into to. My wife's explorer had double vision on the driver side mirror at night with headlights behind you. No one believed me including the dealership until I made the service manger come in after hours to at it in that dark. When they tried to get parts big Ford said that was an impossible problem and required the general manager to verify the problem. All of this for a damn mirror.
I've got the Full-Race V2 on my truck and it was just in for service (LOF & calibration for new wheel/tire setup) and asked my advisor about it. The same answer that I've gotten repeatedly, making changes and modifications doesn't void the warranty. It does though bring into question did your modification contribute to a Ford component to fail. If so then of course Ford isn't going to warranty something that failed because you did something that put their product past it's designed limits. Only thing an intercooler is going to do is drop and keep the charged air cooler then if a stock intercooler was used. That said, you'll probably loose 1 psi of pressure but gain more air molecules per the same charge. Now if you also do the Turbo Smart BOV then i think depending on a failure you may get questioned because stock is electronicly controlled and the Turbo Smart is not. You plug in a de-sensitizer so there's never an accurate reading and hence never trip the sensor. That i can see as arguable if you had an over pressure situation. (i'll try to post some pics of the new tire/wheel combo upgrade tomorrow)
Awesome! Thanks for the replies. I figured it most likely be "it depends". I want to do the full race intercooler and the swarfworks winch mount. Hopefully I've given the dealership enough money on the Mustang and Raptor they won't fight me on the warranty
