I’ll be going to the Raptor Assault March 9th. Has anybody here already been? If so is there anything you wish you knew prior to your trip you could share or is there something I should expect that’s not covered prior to attending?
Been there and have done that, The course is a fun one day but leaves you wanting more. I would say it really depends on the make up of your class. Most of my class was older then me and had never taking their truck off road. That tells ya a little bit on how the day is going to go. Also, i took my truck along. Traveling from DFW i hit the Rocky Mtn's, Santa Fe area and a few days in Moab. If i had more time i would've done some longer trails in UT and spent another day in Moab. Overall it was a good one day class for beginners.......
Was def thinking of hitting Moab while thier, I’m far from unknoglegdable in off-roading. Living in Nevada it’s a requirement lol. Just worried I’ll be super bored now.
Agreed, I leave the 10th for class the 13th and I am driving from New Orleans. Just gonna learn from the class than drive and explore !!
I took a little time and used https://www.alltrails.com to find trail options on my way there and back. What i did was double check the trails i found on this app to googlemaps to make sure where i was looking for the trailhead at and roughly where i'd come out at. Other then maybe some hardcore rock crawling stuff in Moab, there's not much you can't put the truck through it's paces on. After taking the class i was a bit more aggressive, didn't want to break something before getting to class. I'm at 18k now and the tires have maybe a thousand or two left in them. I'll make the move over to the KM2's and that should resolve my concerns of being out solo anywhere. The KO2's are not the best for any mud and snow.........
I was looking forward to attending the course and learning the limits & capabilities of my Raptor by JUMPING their Raptors first but that IS NOT part of school. There is NO jumping of trucks in the program. Every article & Magizene cover I’ve seen talk about it & makes a point to say why jump yours when you can jump theirs first. There is no jumping of Raptors at all. There is barely any sprited (Fast) driving all day. The only time ya do it’s on a small oval dirt loop maybe an 1/8 mile long total. They have you drive straight up this very steep accent but the surface iOS all shot creat and has more grip than any other surface you’ll ever be encountere so although impressive it teaches ya nothing about real world abilities of the trucks ability to adapt and remain in control because there’s zero tire slippage. Then there is the part where ya tilt over to 30 degrees but again you’ll never reach that point ever again unless you drive on Shotcreate, real world ya may get alittle over 20. The only real enjoyable and actual learning was on the mountain drive where there was one hill that was really steep and very rocky & it had a 10” vericle Rock strpup that ya had to get up. First and only real time ya engaged the rear locker. In fact they don’t want the lockers on to save maintenance cost to the course.... smh If this course wasn’t already included with the purchase of the truck I woulda been VERY upset spending almost $2000 on this class. I am upset thou because it did cost me 2 full tanks of gas to get there and back and 2 nights for the hotel & other expenses because it wasn’t even worth that cost. It was nice to take a road trip and get outta town for a couple days but would have much rather spend it at Moad Utah instead. You do get a cool trophy thou.
You are the first person I heard upset about it. Sorry you didn't enjoy it, but I am upset that I couldn't go.
It could just be that The desert has been my back yard so long. I’m sure if the person that was attending doesn’t had a lot of offroad experience they would enjoy it.
