Started this thread as our trucks begin to have wear parts issues. My truck has 52k miles. Shocks need to be replaced/rebuilt. Based on cost, I elected to have mine rebuilt by Fox. Good news is the shocks are being rebuilt by the manufacturer . Bad news is the turn around time is 2 to 3 weeks. Fox doesn’t offer an exchange program.
So for those of us that haven't gotten to that point, how could you tell it was time? Have you done a good amount of off roading or mostly street like your miles would suggest? And what is the bill for replacing and rebuilding? Thanks in advanced.
Rule of thumb on the FOX shocks has always been 50k miles and rebuild. There are well known rebuilders with exchange program and better pricing than FOX. Check the other Raptor Forums and you will find them. The most popular is a guy out of Pennsylvania if I remember correctly.
2 things seem to happen overnight. The ride started to suffer. Hitting hard on bumps I never really remember feeling before. Secondly, the vehicle started to search left to right. Had to make an effort to keep the truck straight. Almost all my driving has been on road not off road.
I chose to use Fox based on my experience with a vendor that came highly recommended on the forums that did an exchange program. Let’s just say I wouldn’t do it twice. Fox was great over the phone explaining their procedure and possible turnaround time. The turnaround time is based off how many racers are in front of you lol
Congrats on your shocks lasting that long! Fox indicated the shocks are best evaluated on a case by case basis. They have racers using their shocks that typically rebuild every 5k. They did say it’s not uncommon to have daily drivers rebuild at the 50k mark.
