Anyone experience any loss of oil on their 2018 Raptor ? 6000 miles and 4 quarts low, no leaks , alarm came on upon throttle up to highway , went into limp mode , shut down and all was good , took it to the dealer and that’s when I was told of the oil loss. Oil and filter was changed the next day all was good , the next morning I heard a knocking sound in the engine compartment, fast forward to today .... Ford want to give me new Long block , not something I’m willing to do , anyone have any advice ?

Not sure if this is the same issue, but a couple of us here have had a slow oil leak.

Mine is on a 2017 and started right around 6K. The service center ran some dye and found it was the oil pan/seal. Both were replaced. I have not noticed any oil spots since the replacement two weeks ago.

I never had any warnings/engine noises with mine. Just spots on the floor.

    Best of luck!

    Thanks Brent.

No leaks at all , just dealing with Ford on repair options or return of vehicle , really like the truck waited 4 months as I ordered it in August and took delivery late December , not sure what the replacement engine will do to the value or the repair as they want to remove the cab from the chassis.

    Thanks,

    Dave

Pardon my ignorance, but why do they want to remove the cab? I’m assuming that is the only way to swap the engine correctly? (Or easier for the dealer) I had a 1996 Camaro SS way back when where you had to do some pretty insane gymnastics to get to rear of the engine. Or, had to do major surgery on a late model Cadillac just to fix a headlight. That sounds pretty crazy they have to go to those lengths. (Frickin engineers) they’re making these new cars unlivable. Sadly, it is almost to the point where I don’t want to buy anymore. Lease it, and throw it away. But, that sucks because you can never truly make the vehicle your own and how you like it.

Listen man, I feel for you. I hope you get a remedy that’s satisfactory to you. Good luck. Please keep us posted.

    BabaYaga,

The dealer said that’s the way they swap out engine today. Talked with Ford today and they said its a “high performance engine and it will burn oil”.. I told them that 4 quarts was excessive and he agreed ..working on getting them to agree to a crate engine ....will keep you posted on the journey

    Regards,

    Dave

I had a modified BMW w TTs. It was alarming at how much oil that thing would burn while not having a conventional dipstick. But ya, 4 quarts, holy cow. A new engine, as you had mentioned, seems to be the only satisfactory remedy. I HATE feeding into the American way of being sue happy, but if communications start to break down and push comes to shove, it may be beneficial to consult an attorney whose practice is focused on automotive litigation (won’t cost you a dime). You bought a big dollar item with an engine that Ford bet big on. It sure looks bad for them when it fails in such a manner.

I feel for you man, a car is typically your second largest investment, it hurts when it’s not going as planned. Good luck. I have a feeling they’re going to do right by you.

Update on the crate engine .....received a call from Ford on Monday after approval for engine stating the crate engine has “ been discontinued and no longer available “ with no explanation as to why it’s been discontinued , so now waiting on Ford to figure out what to do next......the saga continues

I’ve just experienced being 2 quarts low and 2 codes thrown 1 being a misfire. Took to dealership end of September and a TSB came out September 20 to replace the valve covers?? Needless to say oil is a touchy subject with me as I had a 2016 GT350 that was bought back with only 3700 miles on it. That one was 6 quarts low but I think that was a dealer screw up I couldn’t prove. New on the forum looking for some answers.

I have a similar issue... Much of the same as Cabodave reports, but at 5,000 miles. I am working with Ford and vendor to resolve. First things first, lower engine parts were all replaced (short blocked I guess is what they call it) because of small broken metal pieces and a knock in engine after alarms occurred. Because of loss of oil.
Picked up the truck after engine work was completed and I said, I know we replaced the engine components, but did you find what caused the loss of oil in the first place? I was told "Yep, your good to go."
Ok, so lets check the oil again in two thousand miles. Guess What? You guessed it. Down more than two quarts again. Truck went back to the shop. 4 weeks in the shop later, after market blow off valve replaced (to eliminate this as one possible contributor of any problems whether related or not (it was failing)) and the dealer is still investigating loss of oil. Currently, die is in the engine and I need to return to dealership when I have put 500 more miles on it. Truck does run good however.

    Stay tuned for updates.

Update on loss of oil, Ford wanted to replace with short block, I said no, then they went to replace with Long block , I said no and told them the truck could stay at the dealership until the find a crate motor or replace the vehicle ......A week later I received a call that a crate motor showed up along with a short block and long block. I went to see the crate motor and decided to install it . Today 21,000 miles later on the truck and no loss of oil in the last 2 oil changes . I have been checking it every 2K miles and all is good.

Guess I’ll be monitoring the oil closely as I’m not confident that valve covers were the solution. Truck seems to be running good since I picked it up last Wednesday, even though it didn’t run bad before. I’ll update as well if I have any more consumption issues.

Always, Always check your oil. Especially on a big hot motor that we push hard at 450hp. Never rely on a computer but Im old school.
