Hi guys, I have responded to a couple of posts here, but this is my first topic... I have noticed that when in Sport or Baja (in 2WD) I am getting a backfire a second or two after I let off the gas. Has anyone else had this issue/noticed this? I am running mid-grade (91 Octane). The only mod that I have done (so far) is the Borla ATAK exhaust system. The truck has ~3300 miles on it. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!
Hey guys, I think it is a function of the borla atak design itself (hopefully). However the below thoughts crossed my mind . I drove in in cheeseman reservoir pretty hard a few times in Baja mode and noticed it doing this a few times but zero performance loss. It's at about 7000 elevation. I'm no wizard but the noise is generally broken down into two phenomenon. A true backfire or an afterfire. Our condition is most likely an after-fire where a lean mixture doesn't get fully combusted and some gets into exhaust system, combusting there and making the pop sound. Not ideal but not the end of the world. A true backfire is generally associated with driving issues and carbureted engines more often. This didn't Happen in Baja before my atak exhaust and doesn't happen in other drive modes. I think we're fine in other words. PS if anyone lives in Colorado... go to cheeseman reservoir in the burned out forest it's sick.
same here I observed borla Atak back fires when the turbo's are spooled up for some speed and you let off gas. 2018 Raptor with borla Atak and Afe monument GT intake 2500 miles.
my Flowmaster has a 'fart' every once in a while... usually slow speeds when decelerating after a quick burst... it's gotta be airflow conflicting in the exhaust that 'pops' when that occurs
I get the same thing with my stock exhaust in Baja mode. But, I do believe it's supposed to happen in our trucks in that mode. I could be wrong though. The focus rs does something similar by design at high rpms when letting off the accelerator.
In school they taught that back fires happen in the induction system, after fires happens in the exhaust system. Any one else learn this?
I switched to only purchasing fuel from Top Tier stations (in my case BP) and the back firing after fill ups stopped and performance increased. Prior to owning my Raptor, I didn't even know there was such a thing as Top Tier fuels. In my case, it made a significant difference. https://www.toptiergas.com/licensed-brands/
