Hi, I love large fast vehicles. I currently own a Jaguar XJR X350. I get lost of compliments on the car, and it can do zero - 60 in under 5 seconds. Its great for passing people on the highway as well. Anyway, to the point. I just got hired for a new job that pays very well for a single guy, and they will be moving me to Palmdale, CA. (I have spent my whole life on the East Coast, from NYC - Florida) I will be in perfect Raptor country, it seems, and it will be a vehicle I can afford. So here are my questions:

    1) I hear almost nobody gets a Raptor for the price I see on Fords website. A Raptor I would want would have the 802A package (cooled seats are heaven, and adaptive cruise control on the Jag has spoiled me, don't want to lose it) Its priced at 62k. I hear dealer mark up is horrible, so 70k+ would be more realistic, is this true? It also seems like the wait time is awful. Patience is not my strong suit. I would assume the mark up on CA Raptors would be horrible, since you are in an area where you can use it as intended.

    2) This will be my first truck, ever. I do not haul things. I would put an ATV in the back, maybe. I could see the possibility of getting a Jet Ski but a big boat or trailer or hauling horses like on the commercials for trucks will never happen. I am interested in the Raptor because I can get up to 60 in 5ish seconds on the road, and have a great time going fast in the Desert off road. Is the Raptor still worth it if you never haul or is there a better option if I just want to drive fast on and off road?

    3) I do not have brand loyalty on cars. Whoever makes the best vehicle for me, I take that. So please no blind brand loyalty on this question: Does the Raptor have any real competition? I hear RAM is making some new version of the Rebel with the 6.4 liter V8, is this still a concept or is it really coming out? Should I wait? Would a Raptor be better then a Silverado 1500 6.2 liter V8 that has gotten turbos and new shocks and tires?

    4) Any information for a first time truck buyer looking the Raptor beyond what I have asked? Thanks.

Buy the Rap. End of story. No advice needed - well on price. I don't know about the Cali dealers since I am NYC. So don't know what to tell you there.

I've had my Raptor for two weeks. It is also my first truck, if you don't consider the '58 Panel that I use for my business. My other main vehicle is an Audi A6 Avant, so we're both coming from European sports sedans/wagons, and was in the same boat as far as wanting something quick/fun. I honestly felt the Raptor was the only choice.

In regards to your specific questions.

    1. My truck was an 802A with the tech package. It also had the spray in bedliner, sunroof, tailgate step, & heated steering wheel in Lightning Blue. It was exactly as I built it on the Ford site, with the addition of the sunroof, and was located 100 miles away. After searching all over the country I bought this one at $3k over sticker. I could have probably found a better deal if I tried super hard and know I could've gotten a better deal on a 2018, but this truck was exactly as I wanted it and didn't need to deal with shipping or anything, thus I went ahead and paid the $3k over sticker (never went to the dealer, did it all a remote and they delivered it to me).

    2. I will haul some in my truck but nothing too intense. I mainly chose the raptor for the "fun factor"

    3. I don't think that the Raptor has any out of the box competition, granted you could take virtually any truck spend a bunch of cash modifying it and then have something similar to the Raptor, but it wouldn't be factory backed, that works for some people, I didn't have the time or energy to deal with all of that.

    4. I was concerned that the Raptor would feel too big, being as wide as it is, it doesn't. It can be a bit challenging in parking lots, but thus far I have just made sure to choose wide parking spaces, and it's been easier backing in that pulling in for me.

Thanks for the replies. I was a little worried about how long and wide it is for parking, but with that said my current car is far from small. I am concerned about this CA emission thing. I would prefer to be in a more... "red" state, but I can't choose where the job that pays well is.

yea, you couldnt get me to move to Cali.

My first truck, I love it. Actually probably my favorite vehicle of all time, and I have had a few great vehicles. It is wide, length isnt much of an issue (I have a SCAB).

Just get ready to start hunting, like after you read this email. Allotments are a pain. i ordered my truck over the phone and never saw the dealer til it showed up. So if you can find one, order it. You will not be sorry.

    Hey, welcome to the club!!!!

1, Do your shopping before you buy. No you won't be able to buy for less then MSRP so let me get that out of the way. As a result you also know that no one else is either which means too that our vehicles hold value better. There's plenty of these trucks sitting on lots now so it's a matter of you taking time to find one with what you want on it and finding a good dealer that's not trying to bend you over. There's plenty of us here that can recommend dealers to work with. I've hooked on one owner in OR with my dealer in CO and it was a happy marriage that resulted in a bouncing baby raptor!!!! It does come down to the question of how much over MSRP are you willing to pay to get what you want sooner rather then later.

2, Yes it is!!!!! The truck has trade off's and this is one of them. You can't really expect to have towing capabilities and 13" of wheel travel. They don't go hand in hand. So, if your not hauling much over 8k then why care. As for hauling ass, stock i can run with vettes and Mustangs until i hit the governor. They have no idea what just happened and get their asses handed to them. 6 Months in and 10k mi and i smile every time i hear the turbos spool up at startup. The power plant is capable of much more but it the massive tires on a truck like this that keep it to 108 mph. They really don't make tires like what we need that are speed rated much above the 108. I hate this but accept the fact and danger of mass moving that fast. Also, i do believe that Firestone is working on an air suspension that can be taken on and off as needed for some more towing capacity. Again though, what are you really buying the truck for.

3, No there's really not a true comparison to this truck. It's the only one in this niche. However, lets go one step further..... What do you want out of it? The only thing the V8's offer is a better exhaust note. I'll take function over sound any day at this price point. there's nothing out which can post the same performance #'s in an off road configuration. Do you want suspension travel or towing capability? Do you want a bad ass haul ass Sports truck or an economy pickup with better mileage. See, it depends on what your wanting which determines the answer in which you seek. There's nothing in the Raptors class but it.

4, There's a ton of information here on this site, just dig. This site has been up now almost a year so there's plenty of us here who've been here that long and have gone through the buying process and the pains of how this was rolled out to the public. I ordered last Aug i think and it was Mid Jan when Ford delivered to my dealer in CO. That said, feel free to reach out direct if you like with any questions. I may not have an answer to everything but i know who's been here a while and to turn to them.....

The Raptor SuperCrew is just as long as F-150 SuperCrew with 5.5 ft bed. It is wider but you'll get used to it. The cameras also help. Top Gear America did a great a job of showcasing the Raptor just in case you needed more motivation.

Well that's another good selling point along with all of the Ford online videos that kept us strung out until they went on sale.

Also don't forget the Raptor Assault Program that you get to learn how to drive this marvel of a machine at it's limits.

In the end, it's really the best all around tool i've ever come across. It's luxury car appointed interior will make you feel like a pampered CEO. It's a sports car disguised as a truck, mash the peddle and you'll question physics wondering how the hell does such a massive truck launch so hard/fast as you unexpectedly hold your own against modern sports car on the road. When that gets old, say F it to the world and take your luxury Sport truck and leave the civilized world behind and point your truck off road with you middle finger proudly in the air as you leave your problems behind.

Ya, it's that good (with the song of Nothing But a Good Time in the background)!!!!!

1.) Ordering time: As Rapere1 mentioned, the wait times seemed pretty consistent. I ordered mine as soon as the order banks opened in the middle of July and received it the first week of Jan this year. I did order the carbon fiber as part of my package to that put my truck back a little bit. Others who had that or the beadlock wheels had some delays. (I asked that they create a list in 2016 so that I would be #1 on it and offered to put down a deposit which they refused to take)

2.) Price: The price you see mentioned is a ball park MSRP. It will not include taxes (which where I am in WA due to us not having an income tax, is very high), maintenance package if you opt for it, extended warranty if you opt for that, plus any ADM a particular dealership may charge. (My local dealer sold to me for $500 under MSRP but he only received 2 allocations for all of 2017) As others have said, deals for MSRP or close to it are out there if you're willing to drive and look around. It kind of depends on how much personal time you're willing to invest.

3.) Drive: Like others, I was spoiled by the adaptive cruise on my wife's vehicle when we would take our boys to soccer 3 hours away. I had to have it on my Raptor. Therefore, I got the 802a plus the tech package. It is like being in a luxury vehicle....a very big luxury vehicle. My boys love it when driving in a parking lot or in town and people give you a thumbs up out the window when they see us in the Raptor. Lots of positive questions and comments by strangers as well. As for parking, I park in the back 40 of any lot I'm in. As long as there are plenty of spaces in the lot, I take 2. I see several other nice vehicles in the back of Walmart, Home Depot, Costco, etc. doing the same thing. The extra walk does everyone good. I have not taken it on the ferry yet, but I was told by someone else that you can buy more than 1 spot on the ferry if you're worried about side room (If I'm buying a 70k vehicle, paying an extra $10 is not an issue).

Over the years, I've bought brand new: Nissan Armada, Ford Explorer, Ford Mustang, Eagle Talon, Lincoln MKS, Chevrolet Volt, Pontiac Aztek, Ford F-150 Platinum, and a Honda Accord. Overall, the Raptor is far and away my favorite vehicle I've ever owned. My only regret is that I did not have it when I lived in El Centro, CA and had the sand dunes all around me 24/7.
