Does Ford Performance have upgrades available? I don't see them. Can you talk a bit about what you have?

My Raptor blew a transmission gasket towing a 2000 pound pontoon boat. It had about 3700 miles on it.
I get it back from the dealer, no explanation, no reason, not even a conversation about what it might have been. Wow!

That’s about the time I realized my awesomely fun to drive Raptor was just a fast (off road) car in a truck disguise. I lost confidence in my Raptors ability to do truck stuff.

I sold it to Car Max for a $10,000 loss for less than a year of driving. Lesson learned.

I know this is a Raptor forum, I’m just relating my experience. I’m not looking for sympathy.

Did you talk to the service writer and ask questions?

All new vehicles have problems here and there. My biggest lemon was a brand new BMW 5 series. It sucks when you have one. But one incident does not make a lemon in my opinion.

I'm sorry to hear of the experience and i'd be super pissed too if that happened to me.

Not that it's gonna change things at this point but ya, things like this do happen in limited #'s I'm actually surprised on how little has happened overall with this Truck. A brand new power plant, a brand new tranny and a lot of software to make it do what it does. All that said, i expected overall a chance for more problems. The good news is it's seemingly minimal and the bad thing is it happened to you. Really that sucks! I wish you were still able to enjoy what you had believed you were getting.

I've heard that Ford Performance was coming out with a upgrade tune for our trucks but haven't really followed on that lately.

I've been in touch a few times with Ford Performance about the upgrades i was contemplating for their input and warranty impact. They expect people to modify and upgrade but your warranty comes into question when your taking the hardware past the intended use and when you do then it becomes a question of did your modification cause the breakdown. I've had that happen, followed up on it and fixed the issue. Meanwhile not a problem. you can't expect Ford to fix what's not theirs and what you did that led to the failure.

    I went with a
    Roush Cold Air Intake
    JMS Boost Max
    JMS Pedal Max
    The SPD Exhaust Turbo Adapters

Waiting for my Full Race v2 Intercooler to arrive and then i'm pretty much done.

No reprogramming has been needed. I expect to break shit if i take the truck to that point..........

Talked to Ford Performance at Detroit Autorama last week and they confirmed a tune for the Raptor is coming soon good for 50-60 ft-lb torque.

I have an intermittent problem with my transmission, usually when shifting from drive to reverse while parking, while in standard mode. Sometimes it wants to stay in 4th gear and won't downshift. It only happens every once in awhile and Ford just shrugged and said they haven't heard of a widespread problem. I haven't even left the truck with them because if it isn't doing it at the time, and it is VERY rare, they won't really find anything. I hope it doesn't get worse.

But NO, a class action lawsuit sounds like a strange call when there isn't a widespread problem with a product, at least not to my knowledge. Hell my Gen 1 had to go back to get a new drive shaft shortly after I bought it to correct "the clunk" issue. Other than that, I had no problems with it.

You sold your truck at a $10K loss with only 3700 miles on it because of a warranty issue that Ford repaired for you? So you think their claims of 8,000 lb towing capacity and 510 lb-ft of torque is false? I think you panicked and threw away $10K for no reason, if any of that is even true.

There are some common items occurring... Oil pan leak (as we all know), engine stutter (nobody knows what that is, but a user by 03Darin is a tech and working with ford on it), engine noises (related to turbo actuators and cam phasers), oil consumption (not the drip from oil pan - more like 4qts low), and various transmission issues. I think at this point, the transmission should be ok with a few tweaks to work out. The engine still has big questions for reliability.
