I am posting this experience I had for the purpose of notifying members to keep an eye out:

Today as we were getting on the highway the transmission was banging through the gears with hard shifting. As we were speeding up to merge onto the highway we had white smoke coming off the back of the truck, and the temp gauge was pegging up to the red zone. We got off the Highway and limped to the dealership. The entire undercarriage from the drivers door to the tailgate was covered with transmission fluid. The truck is a year old this February, and has 10,000 miles.

So keep an eye on your transmissions gents. I will update the post when I get an update. Please advise if anyone has had similar problems?

    Thank you.

Thanks Gents. Well update I have as of Saturday. My service writer tells me that some pin came loose, don't worry you didn't do any damage to the trans. They have to order some parts.
Left me wondering, "I didn't do any damage"? WTF does that mean? This truck is a highway queen, and guards my drive way 4 days a week as I use the company vehicle for work.
Sorry for the rant, O almost forgot she was in about 1.5 weeks earlier for recalls, and routine maintenance. Did they FUBAR something or did they overlook the problem? Not sure, not happy.
Anyways I hope everyone had a great 2017 and an even better 2018.
I will update when I get the repair order to see what was replaced.

The Raptor is the first Ford application of this tranny. I've always been told never buy the first year of new shit, but I knew what I was getting into. Not making excuses, just saying I'm not overly surprised.

JD, I take your service writer as telling you the tranny didn't get damaged by the pin coming out, not him accusing you of damaging it out of abuse. Then again, I wasn't there when you 2 were talking.

I too have had mine in for the recalls. They tell me the parts aren't available for the door one. I go back in Friday to get the oil pan replaced and to look at my sunroof again that I spoke of in a previous thread. I may have to ask them about this pin thingy.

Best of luck and please do keep us updated.

Ok gents here is the update. The truck was on for the recall, the transmission shift pin. The tech tells me that Ford Corporate mandates that the gasket is re-useable. The leak stems from the gasket re-use. They installed a new gasket and new heat shields. So we will see how it goes. keep an eye out if you go in for the recall.
The tech also said that he doesn't like that they now use a plastic pan for the transmission. New Trans you would hope that they would use n aluminum or metal pan.

Wha... wait. They did an update and let the truck out the door knowing it was going to leak?? Did they clean the tranny fluid off the truck? Was there any sign of it leaking in your driveway? Thanks for telling us JD, I will remember this when I go to check for TSB's. There isn't anything wrong with a plastic trans pan (oil pan is too) , it just needs to be handled more carefully. Remember to put an eye on the trans occasionally to see any evidence of it leaking.

    Sorry to hear JD06!!!!!

Good to know others problems so the rest of us can monitor to see if there is a systemic problem that can effect all of your trucks.

So far, i'm hearing minimal issues across the board which is good!

Vikes i think is up in the 20K for mi and i'm up at almost 18k myself. No real issues that weren't self induced. Occasional electrical gremlins that can never be seemed to be tracked down by the dealer.

    Thanks for everyone for sharing

Thanks guys. There was only a coupe spots on the driveway. They did clean the undercarriage, however not to the liking of my OCD. I put it up on ramps and did some extra cleaning with simple green. I am always glad to pass along info, that's what it's all about.

Thanks Buba, I was hopeful too. Well the latest is that 1.5 weeks after the truck was returned to me I had the same problem, and it seems to be reoccurring when your accelerating up to merge on the highway, and highway speeds.

We were on the HWY and the transmission seemed like it was struggling to find, then maintain gears. The shifting was so hard / violent that my wife asked why I was driving like that, my 17 year old daughter said stop doing that. To their dismay it was the truck acting this way and not driver input.

Got the vehicle back to the house and I found I had trans fluid leaking enough that I had to get cardboard to put under the truck to contain the mess. There was trans fluid splattered all the way back to the rear bumper. The next day you could smell the fluid on the cardboard and it smelled burnt. NOT GOOD.

Monday truck goes back to dealer / service. I was given a loaner 2018 F150 XLT, yes I know its not a Raptor!. Wow, the 10 speed trans in this 2018 is smooth, nothing like mine. :-/ Told the SVC writer that I don't want the truck back until the problem has been properly diagnosed and corrected to run like new, or we replace this 2017 trans with a new 2018 10 speed trans.

So after the tech has the truck for 02 days I was told by my SVC writer that I need to call ford corporate to open a case / claim with regard to the trans. I have yet to hear what the actual diagnosis is. At this juncture I'm figuring there's more here then meets the eye. I was contacted by corporate and they have opened a case and will be investigating......so stay tuned. I will update as I learn more.

BTW I took this photo of the gages that night it started acting up, look at the trans temp. My speed was set at 64mph, the mph limit there is 65mph. The trans found and stayed at 10th gear after I backed down from 70mph.
