Took me a while to find this thread again. "MPG" is too short to search for.
Anyway - I just wanted to update this thread. I will be taking off on a hunting trip next week and placing about 3500 miles on the truck, been very "scientific" about which gas I am going to use. Here is what I did:

I used 93 for the first 13xx miles. Average about 17.7 MPG (I don't go nuts on the S+ mode)
Switched to 89 from 13xx-3000 miles. Averaged 16.75 MPG
Just switched back to 93 with about 7gal of 89 still in the tank. I am up over 18MPG. I also notice a bit more 'pep' when driving.

Given the amount of highway driving I will be doing, I am all over the 93 (or 91 if it is all I can find) for the trek.

So IMO higher octane is what these engines like and will prefer.

I would agree with Nexmeister on the octane and mpg update. The early break-in period (first few tanks of gas)was underwhelming(10-12 mpg), which was certainly influenced by driving style. Now easily eclipsing 17 mpg with a mix of highway and around town running 93 octane.

That would be nice. I just did an 1800 mile trip from Wyoming to Minnesota on only 91 premium. Round trip 15.8 mpg. 78 to 85 mph the whole way. Now running around Wyoming and Colorado I usually get 17 ish. Not sure why the drop off.

Having made that exact drive a number of times I can tell you exactly why - wind. The Dakotas just eat gas with side winds across the plains.

Pheasant hunting in SD is the best.

Watch out for flying Raptors. Shoot one of those and the owner might be a little upset. :893Chainsaw-Smilie-

19.2 average at allitude 8200 ft down to 5200 ft above sea level. Regular gas don't fuck with high octane gas much

Slower speeds does wonder G. That's what I've found.

There are 2 parts to this tread - generic what MPG have you been getting and 2 - more importantly i think - What MPG you getting with what grade fuel?

The real question is does the truck get better mileage on 93 and if so then is it enough of an improvement to justify the cost?

I am about 10k miles. I'd say its about 60% town / 40% highway (mostly 65 to 70 mph not 85) I only use 93 and sometimes i use 93 ethanol free. my lifetime ave is 17.1

So update after 3800 miles on the open road. I was using 93 from NYC to about MN/IOWA where the gas octanes dropped down in the states due to ethanol(flexFUEL). I was averaging about 14.1 with the AdCC on pretty much the whole way set at 74MPH. What really hurt was driving through a blizzard and high cross winds in MN which dropped me way down to 7 MPG.

After spending considerable amount of time running solely 87 octane, the truck crept back up to 15.3 or so. Once I got out of the high plains winds, my gas consumption shot up to over 19MPG for the last 700 miles home.

Moral of the story I guess: Slower speeds=better fuel consumption. I am now strictly running 87 and have zero complains. Yeah, yeah, yeah I do loose a slight 'pep' in acceleration, but not noticeable to the non Raptor driver.

74, speed limit here in Wyoming is 80. Can't drive that slow.
